Barnwell picks KC to win the Super Bowl

NFL playoff bracket predictions: Scores, Super Bowl pick

Bill Barnwell, ESPN Staff Writer
Jan 11, 2024, 06:35 AM ET

I'm doing something here that never, ever works, and that is predicting what will happen in the NFL playoff bracket by running through the entire thing. Yes: I'm picking winners for the six wild-card games, the four subsequent divisional-round contests, the two conference championships and then Super Bowl LVIII. That's 13 game previews, seven of which are for games that might never actually occur.

Will this be the actual bracket? No. Do not waste your time getting mad. If we treat my chances of getting each game right as a coin flip, the odds of me making 13 correct picks are 8,192-to-1. And if I get even one wrong in the early rounds, the seedings are thrown off, which would ruin the entire bracket I've predicted.

Instead, I hope you'll treat this as a thoughtful look into what might transpire if and when these teams do match up in the playoffs. I've done my best to break down how each team lines up against one another, what might represent obvious points of strength and weakness and what history tells us about their chances, including one matchup that just about everyone would expect to be a blowout.

I'll be up front: I made a preseason prediction on a Super Bowl matchup, and as I'm lucky enough to have both of those teams in relatively strong positions as we begin the postseason, I'm sticking with that prediction here. First, let's make it through the wild-card round before getting deeper into the postseason:

Spoiler!

the Steelers are a LOT better with Rudolph than Pickett. Like a LOT.

I think they match up pretty well with Buffalo. They're exactly the type of team that could frustrate Josh into chucking a few up for grabs, and that could be enough to win it.

Not speaking for Clay, but for my part I don't give a shit who wins the other games.

The opponent just doesn't matter to KC. The only thing that matters is whether they continue the unforced errors or play a clean game. Play a clean game, they win, period.

So I don't care if Buffalo wins or not.

And I think it's probably 60/40 they do win.

I'm just saying that The Steelers are better than they looked most of the season, the offense actually functions with Rudolph. The way they're built, they can run the ball and play defense and frustrate Allen. They have a legit chance to win this game. Buffalo is dinged up, missing a lot of guys, and their weaknesses play to The Steelers' strengths.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Not having TJ Watt hurts them immensely (obvious statement is obvious).

If Steelers don’t have some sort of impact on special teams (a big return, punt block, long field for Bills, etc) and they don’t somehow generate turnovers, the Bills will choke them out by mid game.

God has a plan for everything. You said it yourself. He can't give the Steelers every lucky bounce this season just to have them lose now.

Whether or not you care about the opponent, you should care about the venue.

We will beat Pittsburgh in the AFCCG at Arrowhead stadium before facing the 49ers in the SB. We have home field advantage, we just don’t know it yet!!!

The stuff that’s been uncharacteristic of this team long term will adjust to the mean.

Mahomes will be decisive
The WRs will catch everything
The defense will create turnovers as they force offenses into desperation/rushed decisions.

On top of that, Rice will bloom into a STAR in front of the whole world.
Kelce will be in prime shame and fresh.
All the guys in contract years are going to play the best ball of their lives.

This is going to be a lot of fun to watch.

I honestly think this year has a much easier path than last year where we had to face a murderers row in the playoffs. I honestly think this team has a sizable advantage to every team in the AFC. Especially if this group of WRs can play to what we all thought was their potential going into the year.

Buckle up, fam.

This is going to be one hell of a ride!!

I wouldn't call last year murderers row. Jax was a fairly underwhelming team, Cincy had an awful OL and it was in Arrowhead.

Miami, @ BUF, @ Baltimore, and SF/Dallas/whoever would be way harder. Especially having to play an extra game.

7 seeds are 0-6

No TJ Watt they are 1-10, because their roster is so disgustingly thin and has been for years.

10 pt underdogs for a reason.

**** the Steelers and anyone who loves them.
