Clark Hunt, Veach, and this entire organization is a class act and deserve credit.

As the Chiefs prepare for Super Bowl there are a number of little things I've felt it necessary to point out or take notice of. A lot of individuals deserve credit for getting this team to where it is, mainly, Mahomes, but there are others that paved the way for this.

1. Clark Hunt. I know he's kind of a nerdy guy, but like his father he is a class act. Nothing but class and professionaliship when he accepted the Lamar Hunt trophy. But besides writing the checks, I think Clark himself deserves a ton of credit for the current status of the Chiefs.

As we all know he was hands on in bringing Reid to town, but his decision to remove Dorsey and go with Veach, a move at the time the I man many struggled with, clearly was the right decision. Props to Clark for one, knowing what he wanted, and two, having the balls to follow through. I don't think we are here with John Dorsey at the helm, and that's coming from a Dorsey fan.

2. Breat Veach. I've always been a fan of his, but hated the way it happened. Yet over time he was clearly the right man and the right fit for the Chiefs. I'll be 100% honest, after last year we all knew anything was possible with Mahomes, but I never thought he could tear down and rebuild the defensive side of the ball in one off season. And that's especially so when you consider we traded away our first round pick for Frank Clark and didn't draft a corner early in the draft. His 2019 draft and free agent signings were excellent.

3. Andy Reid. The dude is no joke. Every coach makes a bad call, but damn Reid is just the perfect fit in KC, especially with a QB like Mahomes. I feel this year more than ever, Reid is letting the leaders on this team take control, show their personality. Man I want him to get a ring.

4. Steve Spagnuolo. I had my doubts, but the staff he put together and his style of defense is one of the main reasons the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl. What I like most is that his half time adjustments work most of the time. Great hire. Props to Andy and Veach for knowing exactly who to go out and get.

One Observation: The trophy celebrations on Sunday were interesting to me. The Chiefs were perfect, Clark, Norma, Reid, Mahomes, HB, and Kelce. Everything a fan would ever want to see. Veach did not seek the limelight, which is impressive, and much different than John Lynch in San Fran. It says a ton about Veach IMO and validates Clark's decision to replace Dorsey.

This season and last are instructive for a fan base about getting too high or too low. Most of us have been down on Reid and/or Veach at some point, and during the Alex Smith era (not always due to Smith himself) there were often plenty of reasons. They haven't gotten everything right. But the cliche is true, you have to get the right people in there and you have to trust the process. The right minds will make the process work but you have to have a long term view.

Exactly.
Tyreek and Kelce had two guys each on them the whole game.

Though Reid has learned apparently as we did a great job against Tennessee running the ball to run the clock out, starting in the third quarter. I didn't see that coming, and neither did the Titans
Only idiots bitched about Reid not running the ball when we were up. People are dumb.

This Super Bowl run really started taking shape the first year Mahomes was on the roster. He was the backup. That year, the Titans came into Arrowhead and embarrassed us. The following offseason, I remember Veach talking about how frustrating it was watching the Titans run the ball in the fourth quarter as time expired and we were helpless to stop it. Stopping the run was a priority for him that offseason. He picked up Hitchens and Ragland. Drafted Nnadi. Picked up Xavier Williams.

The following year, once again, the Chiefs struggled to stop the run in key moments. The Patriots came into Arrowhead, this time in the AFC Championship, and ran the ball down the field on the opening drive, scoring a touchdown, slowing the game down and setting the tone. In overtime, we couldn’t stop the run when it mattered most. We were helpless to stop it.

Sutton is fired. Houston and Ford aren’t retained. Clark comes in. Mathieu is brought in. Damien Wilson is acquired. Bigger, stronger DEs are brought in. Pennel is picked up mid season. A whole new defensive staff is coaching these guys, and it’s paying off. The run defense is no longer a weakness. This team just stymied one of the best rushing attacks in the league, and made Derrick Henry look pedestrian.

Now, in the Super Bowl, another vaunted rushing attack awaits the Chiefs. The run defense will be tested. And we will find out if all of those moves made during the past 3 years will culminate in a Super Bowl for Kansas City.

This team was made for this moment. It’s destiny. Chiefs by 50.

I gotta say the slight difference between this year and the last few are Veach.

A lot of people bagged on him even at the start of the season....

In retrospect he literally achieved the almost impossible to improve this team; he changed defensive coordinators and brought in a ton of new defensive players and had it pay off int he first year.

It's hard enough to have a good defense with a new coordinator in one year let alone a new DC along with a ton of new players.

He fired Sutton and brought in Spags...
He let Houston and Ford walk and brought in Clark, Ogbah and Okafor
Het let Berry walk and brought in HB...
He got Breeland in...
He stuck with Ward....
They brought in Pennel mid-season...
They brought in Suggs....

On top of drafting players like Hardman he has taken us over the hump.

Dorsey had an eye for some talent but we truly have to ask how much of that was him listening to Veach?

Mid-season it was 2018 all over again with the defense no doubt. There was nobody touting Spags/Veach whatsoever. And at that time Reid/Spags kept telling us "hey they are getting better and starting to understand the system/schemes and they will get much better" on top of the Frank Clark lingering injury as to why he wasn't making any big plays. NOBODY WAS BUYING WHAT THEY WERE SAYING ON THIS BOARD and rightly so. BUT in the end, they were telling the truth.
