3-D Gun files are available for downloading....
Leading edge technology.
I've dowdloaded the funny looking .22cal Liberator STL files and will load up the printer this weekend. The 3-D printer uses plastic to make stuff; look forward to the cost of metal printers decreasing so the general public can make a wider range of objects capable of higher stresses and loads. Fun Stuff! URL for files: https://defcad.com/ 3-D guns: Untraceable, undetectable and unstoppable? https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/31/us/3d...uns/index.html Not long ago it was the stuff of science fiction, but now US officials and lawmakers are grappling with a new reality -- the ability for citizens to print firearms at home. As of Wednesday, it will be legal to download instructions on how to make a plastic handgun with a 3-D printer. The instructions for the Liberator are being published on a website run by nonprofit Defense Distributed. So what's the controversy all about? What are 3-D-printed guns? The process of 3-D printing uses computer-created digital models to create real-world objects -- everything from simple chess pieces to more complex objects such as functioning clocks. The printers follow the shape of the model by stacking layer upon layer of material to make the objects. Do-it-yourself firearms such as the Liberator have been nicknamed "ghost guns" because they don't have serial numbers and are untraceable. On the Defense Distributed website, people will be able to download plans for building the Liberator as well as files for an AR-15 lower receiver, a complete Beretta M9 handgun and other firearms. Users also will be able to share their own designs for guns, magazines and other accessories. The high-end 3-D printers needed to make such weapons cost thousands of dollars and may be too expensive for most people. But that doesn't ease the concerns of those who think guns made from 3-D printers are a really bad idea. Last edited by Trivers; 07-31-2018 at 10:21 AM.. |

The fact that plastic guns are illegal shows the grip that the NRA has on our government. If plastic guns take off, then the NRA's profits will take a hit, and I'm betting they'll pay what they need to to get politicians to keep them illegal. How big of a hit remains to be seen.
I mean look at the President yesterday, “I am looking into 3-D Plastic Guns being sold to the public. Already spoke to NRA, doesn’t seem to make much sense!” NRA has the government's balls in a vice. |

The idea of a plastic gun is stupid. For the price you'd pay to get the printer and materials needed to assemble one that would marginally function and maybe not blow up in your hand, you could purchase an arsenal of actual weapons that actually work. Hell, you can buy a decent AR for under $600 right now, a quality polymer handgun for $500, an okay handgun for $350, and a piece of crap Hi-Point that would still be worlds better than the best plastic gun for around $200. I think people who are scared of this shit have watched too much Star Trek. A 3D printer isn't a replicator. |

Technology gets more advanced everyday, I don't know if you've paid attention to that the last twenty years or so. What seems harmless and stupid today could be an issue three to five years from now. Why is the NRA against these then? To say people are scared of this is a gross overstatement. They just see where there could be an issue down the road even though you refuse to see it their way because they're on the opposite side. You're using people's concerns as a reason to attack them, I'm not surprised, it seems to be the go to move for people like you nowadays. Get off your bandwagon for five seconds and actually empathize with something other than yourself and others who share your same view points. Bringing up a fictitious television technology from a fictitious television show to try and disprove something that actually exists as your first argument... I'd get new arguments. |

From my standpoint, I have plenty of real guns. I don't need, care about, or worry about this plastic shit. Perhaps one day this will be a serious concern, but for now the technology sucks, and it's a joke. |
