How Are You With Stews?

I did a slow cooker beef stew today and it was wunnerful. Beef turned out tender and tasty.

I use:

Beef Stew cubes: Dredged in flour, black pepper and Old Bay, then drop in a skillet in olive oil just to brown the cubes up. Then into the crock pot baby...

Then add:

1/2 can beer -any beer will do.
Chopped up carrots
Chopped up gold potatoes
Sliced Mushrooms
1 can diced tomatoes
Garlic
worstech-esh-esh-ter sauce
Couple shots of Frank's Red Hot or hot sauce of your choice
Pack of Beef Stew Slow Cook Spice
Cut up yellow onion

Let it matriculate down the field for about four hours.
Serve with hot bread or biscuits.
MMMMMMMM.......I is full.

I like to take a piece of roast, cover it in kitchen bouqet, sear it off, throw it in with beef broth and cook with potatoes and carrots until its all fall apart, then throw in the peas/corn etc. Season with salt pepper, garlic, old bay. mixing it up lets the potato starch thicken the broth.

YUM

True. Pressure cookers are excellent, too. Interesting read, if you're inclined:

Why Anything Slow Cookers Can Do, Others Can Do Better

People love their slow cookers. I mean, they love them. Month after month, they continue to be one of the top-selling kitchen appliances, and the number of websites and books dedicated to recipes for them is staggering. And with good reason. At least on the surface, slow cookers offer a level of convenience that no other cooking method can match: Just dump in your ingredients in the morning, switch it on, and come home to a hot meal ready and waiting for you.

But at what cost? What exactly are you sacrificing by committing to that path of least resistance, and is it actually that much more convenient than the alternatives?

More at the link.
