The Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan Dead at 46
She was the lead singer since the early 1990s

Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of the Cranberries, has died, as the BBC reports. She was 46 years old. According to a statement from her publicist, she was “in London for a short recording session.” No further details are available at this time. O’Riordan was the frontwoman of the Irish rock group since the early 1990s, when she joined brothers Noel and Mike Hogan and drummer Fergal Lawler. The first Cranberries album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, was released in 1993. The band went on hiatus in 2003 before returning in 2009. In 2014, O’Riordan was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Last year saw O’Riordan and co. release Something Else, a full-length album of stripped down renditions of songs from throughout the Cranberries catalog. In 2016, she also collaborated with the Smiths’ Andy Rourke in the group D.A.R.K., releasing one album, Science Agrees.

I'm sure Dane knows a lot more about this than I do, but it seems to me that it's not the "normal" people who do extraordinary things.

Good point but lets not act like every rock star is offing themselves after getting high on drugs I'd still say they are the minority.

Nah, that's not really true.

Look at a guy like John Williams, the most successful film composer of all time. The guy is 85 years old and still cranking out music. He's never had substance abuse problems.

Actually, the overwhelming majority of successful artists don't have substance abuse problems but those who do/did/had generally came from a "scene", like Seattle, in which heroin was the drug du jour and claimed the lives of many from that scene (Andrew Wood, Layne Staley and more).

There are thousands of orchestral musicians in symphonies across Europe (and some in the States) that absolutely phenomenal that don't have substance abuse problems.

In this case, she was sexually abused, dealt with bipolar disease and anorexia and had previously tried to commit suicide.

Have some modicum of talent and suicide are mutually exclusive.
