Yes, boxing is referred to colloquially as a fight, and it's still sanctioned violence with an extreme level of danger, but it's also a much older fighting form that has had decades to evolve into its current form. It's called the "sweet science" for a reason.

It will be interesting to see how MMA evolves. Historically, it's still in its infancy. Right now, as a boxing fan, it's hard for me to appreciate the striking aspect given the footwork and chins of the competitors. An old Floyd was never once worried by McGregor's power in that fight.

Over time, and if boxing continues its decline, you may see MMA fighters that spend more time on proper footwork and learn how to move with a punch to lessen its effect. Then again, maybe there are so many aspects you have to defend in MMA that the fighters just won't have time to learn and master that component.
I think some of the footwork you see as a mistake might actually be footwork designed to create opportunity for other tools in their toolbox, a middle-ground of sorts. As a wrestling coach many of the shots taken in MMA are taken from a stance I wouldn't have approved of, but my wrestlers never needed to be ready to also deliver a punch, or a round-house, or a superman.

Boxing footwork will never work in MMA.

I get that you don't respect MMA, but you keep saying things that make me think you don't understand it as well as you are pretending you do.

Frankly, it sounds like you just regurgitate Max Kellerman.

An old Floyd was DEFINITELY at least a little worried about his power or he would have knocked him out in the first. He played defense and let him wear himself out before going on the offensive and potentially opening himself up to take a power shot. Why do that if you have no worries?

I never said that it would, but MMA fighters will never be able to carry their power to a boxing ring if they don't employ better footwork in a boxing ring. I never claimed to have much of any knowledge of MMA. In fact, I said specifically the opposite in this thead.

He let himself get hit a few times before he opened up. After that, he knew there was nothing to worry about. It's the smart way to fight if you know that you can lap someone technically and you are unsure of their raw power. Play it safe while you figure out their power, then start taking them apart. That's what Floyd did. He also wanted to give the viewers a little bit of a show.

You don't find it a touch interesting that he bet on himself to end it before 9.5, and the end of the 9th round is precisely when he began opening up?

He knew how long conor had, shit eventhe announcers said he probably couldn't go over 25 minutes. He never had. Which is precisely when floyd opened up.

Im going to respectfully disagree that he waited over 8 rounds to really open up and wasn't worried about his power at all.

After the first round his dad was telling him he was going to be done by the 4th.

Why didnt Floyd open up when his dad said he should? Imo is because conor wasnt worn out yet. I think he surprised them a little. He's gotten somewhat gassed in the 2nd in mma before.

But he's worn out after 25.

It was interesting to see McGregor rubbing elbows with Mayweather and Ellerbe at the end of the post fight. Talking about willing to take more boxing offers. Dana White was no where to be seen.
