There's Speeding...then there's SPEEDING

Sorry if a re-post. Dude clocked going over 200 mph in a Mustang in Oklahoma:

http://www.kmbc.com/article/man-arre...rnpike/8300966

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a state trooper arrested a driver after clocking his speed at more than 200 mph.

The patrol says Trooper Ryan Smith pulled over the man Saturday on the Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City. Authorities say the man was driving a Ford Mustang and the trooper's radar clocked the car at 176 mph and then 208 mph.

Authorities say the driver attempted to elude the state trooper -- turning off his headlights and brake lights at one point -- but he was eventually pulled over at a red light. The highway patrol says the driver stopped his car and dropped his keys out of the window.

The highway patrol says the driver was arrested on complaints of reckless driving and felony eluding.

161 in 5th gear of my CTS-V, 6th gear could only do 142. (and will not do it again). 176 on a Suzuki 750 GSXR modified. Loved that bike while stationed in Germany. (won't do that again either).

Youth is definitely equivalent to stupidity. With that bike, I almost started putting lil' red sirens long the top of the gas tank.

One story. I was late to an army buddies wedding in BFE Kansas. There was a long straight (5 mile) away going down and up a valley. Hardly any traffic. Going pretty fast. In the distance I see 5-6 cars coming towards me in the other lane. As I get closer, I notice the lead car is a cop. SH*T. As I pass, I looked in the mirror and he had pulled over, but had to wait for the line of following cars to pass before he could U turn. Now I am going really fast. But radios are faster. I top the edge of the valley and immediately look for a turn off. I found a house with a driveway that sneaked behind a small hill in the front yard. Parked the bike behind the hill and low crawled to the crest and waited. and waited. What seemed like forever, I heard a large V-8 down shift and blast up the edge of the valley and go flying past me. VROOM. I waited. and waited. and waited. Again forever. Then the same V-8 down shift, and the cop VROOMED past me going the opposite direction. I waited for another 10 min, hopped on the bike, drove around the hill back onto the highway and went a sedate 55 mph. Hopped over a county onto another n-s road.

I was late and had to change my pants.

I've edged above 100 two times, maybe three, but just barely.

I actually did it about a month ago. I was driving on that big Indian reservation in Arizona and needed to pass someone on terrain where the passing sections weren't very large. I accelerated and by the time I got past the other vehicle I was in triple digits. But only for about five seconds. I really don't enjoy high speeds.

My car is a rock star, by the way.

I still think it's funny, you went from a pink roadster into the same type roadster but was looking for a larger car in the first place.

But then again, you don't drive much and no kids.

Do you have a fit-bit? I would be interested to know how many steps/miles you walk/day.

It was apricot.

Yeah, that was a coup to score another roadster. I thought it was the end of an era until my wife saw this car and changed her mind.

It's funny that you should mention the fitbit. I have two watches, one dress watch and a GPS running watch. Last month the band on the GPS watch broke, so I've been holding it together with two safety pins, which actually works well but it can kind of chafe if it's too tight. It's clearly not a permanent fix. The band is integral to the watch and can't be replaced.

Then this morning, I put on my dress watch and I guess the battery died last night. The battery generally lasts two or three years or more.

My wife says she can do a better repair on the GPS band, and I can certainly replace the battery on the dress watch. But I'm wondering if it's time to consolidate and buy an all-purpose running watch with GPS and an activity tracker. I've been wanting one of those anyway. But I'm terribly guilt-plagued about giving up on two otherwise fine watches.

Do people like the fitbit type of thing, or is it something that's cool for a month and then you forget about it?

167 on a suped up '85 V-Max, 145 in a Lexus LS 400, and 145 on my current V-Max. There's a perfect stretch south of Ringling Mt. You can see for miles, pretty new highway, and doesn't get a lot of traffic.

I couldn't remember the exact color. I was gonna say Chartreuse. Then remembered it was pinkish...Apricot. One of a kind. You should be kissing your wife's feet to get another im-practical roadster You must be doing something right.

As to the fitbit thingie...I am a small watch whore. Just small. I only have 10 watches. Dress, sport, skeleton etc. The skeletons' intrigue me the most. I have a buddy that is seriously addicted, 14k for a watch:: Money to blow. In this day in age, what can men do to accessorize? "I don't need a watch, I got my phone". Point taken. Shoes, socks, rings, neckless, hats, tatts. Well sorry guess the last one is not an accessory. Watches are.

These "fitbit" thingies would suit you well. I have a Garmin vivofit 2. It is small, shows minimal data, time/date/steps/goal of steps/miles/calories. There are some that have heart rate monitors et al. The "fitbit", as I understand just shows a red light when you hit a mile marker...1k steps. Then you look at your smart phone that shows all others. My buddy wears his 14k watch on his left hand and the simple fitbit on his right hand.

I am not sure why you need a GPS in Denver...maybe whilst running or not to get lost??. But I like to know (I am trying to lose lbs) how many steps I take/day. Just information. To me, this is not a fad, but health info.

Maybe a separate thread on this?

was a passenger in a supercharged S10 pickup that reached almost 170 on the local interstate at 2am after having been out drinking. I prayed to God to save my life...

never got in that car again.

There is no way this happened...cop is making shit up.

#1. The cop would never have found him...he's traveling at 3 1/2 miles a minute. The 15 seconds it would take to get his car moving...he would be a mile away.

#2. No 19 year old Mustang driver has the cash for a 200 mph+ car. The top Supercars can barely make that speed...if at all.

#3. The kid should just put his car on a dyno...then let his lawyer go from there.

#1 you obviously didn't read the article.
#2 how do you know who paid for what?
#3 how would that prove anything? How many hp does it take to go 200+?
