Alamo Drafthouse - Have you been to one?
We're getting one in Springfield. It sounds great! However, this is Springfield...the buckle of the conservative bible belt. The Alamo Drafthouse will be renovating a movie theater that's closing after 20 years in business. Said movie theater used to sell beer. Of course, we can't have that.
Read this article: http://www.news-leader.com/story/new...-say/87388490/ I guarantee you that some group will rise up and call for a total ban on alcohol sales in movie theaters period. Heaven forbid that they choose to go to one of the other theaters that doesn't serve alcohol if they're so worried about the possibility of minors drinking. I think this sounds like a cool place. I hope they survive here. I'm wondering if anyone who's been to one has ever had any negative experiences due to the alcohol, and just what the general atmosphere is like. |

I can only speak for one that has been open about 18 months about 2 miles from my home.
-Great selection of beers and good food -Really nice concept -Very upscale and no issues at all but I am 53 and don't go see movies like "Fast and Furious 7" with a bunch of young rebel rousers who get drunk and yell things at the screen or talk on their phone. Never seen that here in the few times -Prices higher but not crazy -Clean and great service https://drafthouse.com/ashburn Hope it does well for you.

Does anyone know, if you get an Alamo Draftohuse, do you also get the non-movie touring schedule?
I know a lot of standups, improv groups and podcasts drop by the one in Austin, but I don't know if the other ones get the same touring artists.

Like them but mostly target the best AV experience I can find for the few times a year I see a movie in the theater.

Been to a few of them down here. I like them a lot. You definitely get s more upscale and behaved crowd than in a regular theater. The food is good and the service is usually solid.
Their concept has become so popular that a lot of the bigger theater chains have started to adopt some of their ideas and policies. Waiters and food, 18+ only, etc. One of my favorite things they do are the silly previews they play before the movie starts. They are themed to whatever movie it is your getting ready to watch. If it's Spider-Man, then they show old corny cartoons and cheesy toy commercials from the 70s and 80s.

Went to the one in San Antonio often when I was stationed at Lackland AFB.
Always enjoyed myself when going out with friends or a girl I had with me at the time. Pricey, but enjoyable. |
