Reid has shown no indication or preparation to playing anyone but Alex Smith.

Bray hasn't played at all
Murray has made one pass attempt
Daniel hasn't played a single snap with the 1's

Unless Smith gets hurt it's just not going to happen

Bray won't make the squad. He's never taken a single snap during regular season practice. Murray's probably on thin ice as well, since Reid has been reluctant to give him any preseason snaps.

Smith will start unless he's injured.

So did Trent Green, Troy Aikman, Joe Montana and so on.

Alex isn't unique in that regard.

Without an average to above average offensive line, nearly every QB in the history of the NFL has struggled.

The running game was fine until Cyrus Gray was forced into action.

Davis was a rookie and did a fine job. Running back is the least of the Chiefs worries.

18 carries for 67 yards is bad.

Seems like we are always stagnant or going backwards in a forward moving league.

3.7 yards per carry isn't "bad" for a rookie forced into duty in a playoff game, especially when the QB threw for 363 yards and ran for another 50.

JFC, this place is going to shit the bed when Jamaal Charles begins his inevitable decline.

If a QB throws for nearly 400 yards that should just make your running game that much more effective.

But bad or not, it was a lot less effective than it is when Jamaal is in. That was my original point that you decided to try and debate. I'm not sure why you'd attempt to do so.

We should just cut him then. We're clearly better off without him.

The point is that the running game in the NFL is irrelevant. 3.7-4.0 yards a carry is more than adequate. What's important is the passing game and defense.

Unfortunately, the Chiefs are always exactly the opposite of the current trend. Freakin' Bill Kenny passed for 4,000 yards to three great wide receivers but the Chiefs never had a running game. Same with Joe Montana, Bono, Grbac, etc.

Since the turn of the millenium, the Chiefs have had no issues with finding a running back, whether it's Priest Holmes or Larry Johnson or Jamaal Charles. But of course, they've have problems finding a QB, WR's and a consistent passing game. And until Sutton arrived with Reid, a real defense.

It's unlikely that Knile Davis and/or Charcandrick West will ever average 4.5 yards per carry, let alone 5.0 like Charles. But it's unnecessary in today's NFL to have a 1,500 yard rusher because most likely, that team is sitting home during the playoffs and Super Bowl.
