Anyone here done solar panels?

Our recent burst of hailstorms in Denver appears to have taken out my roof. If I'm going to re-roof, it's probably the right time to add some solar panels. Anyone got experience with them? Would you recommend them?

And if you're a roofer or solar panel person in Denver, feel free to advertise your services to me.

That would be the SolarCity model. They now offer the option of adding battery storage to that same system. Might make it a bit more feasible.

No. They came to my door to sell them to me. They left whimpering and in tears.

Seeing a grown man pleasuring himself while slathered in crude will do that to someone.

We've got solar but also live in Phoenix. It was on the house when we bought and we pay the lease. We still come out ahead but not as much as if we'd have bought outright.

Just moved to JoCo and our first month's electric bill was over $300. WTF? Am I paying for some subsidies for the KCP&L cover charge or something?

I wrote some ads for solar at a previous job and I think it's a great way to go, but yeah, you have to read all the fine print and make sure you are covered for the long run. leasing sounds like the best option, as I believe photovoltaic technologies will improve vastly year over year.

I don't know what the differences are, but over in Denmark, I saw many homes and farm houses with solar panels and even a few with smaller wind generators. I do know for a fact that the wind energy works. My cousin over there is CEO of EnergiDanmark and he said that his company had a 2.6 billion dollar turnover 2 years ago. I also read that this month, Denmark's wind generators produced 140% of the entire nation's electrical needs. No wonder my cousin bought a fancy speedboat and a new range rover. He's got the big bucks!

With a combination of solar panels and wind energy providing electricity for your home, I would think it would pay for itself eventually. And it's pretty darned cool that it works so well. I'm also eager to see how improvements are made in the coming years. Oil and coal are finite resources, so it is good that strides are being made in renewable energy.

Do you live in a heat-sink? My last bill was $95 (JoCo KCPL) and I keep my home pretty cool. I do have high efficiency equipment, but that wouldn't make up $200+.

Good solar panels cost about $7/watt and that doesn't include installation or modifications to your home. To brew your coffee in the morning demands about 1000 watts. $7000 better be a damn good cup of Joe. If you're looking at battery storage, just bend over and say AHHHH!
