I'll have to take that one for a test drive at some point thanks for the tip buddy. I drove to Bozeman last night to catch an Eric Church concert so I'm fortunate enough to have some left from Fridays batch so I'm working on it now.

I have one more tip for making punch bowls for a party - get an old 'jello mold' from a thrift store/antique store - clean it good. A few days before your party, pour aboug 3/4 of an inch of cranberry juice in the mole (or use a tupperware bowl or something) and pop it in the freezer over night. Now pour an inch or so of orange juice an pop it back in the freezer, first thing in the morning. After work, top the mold off w/more cranberry juice and freeze solid for the party. Unmold by dipping the mold-bottom into warm water for 20 seconds or so (don't let hot water get in the juice) then turn upside down into your punch bowl. It'll look good while it melts - and adds juice instead of water to the punch.
My traditional summer rum punch involves a half gallon carton of pineapple-orange juice and a 2 liter bottle of Squirt or other Grapefruit soda, the juice mold above, and a cup of white rum, a cup of dark rum (sub tequila, vodka or gin if you prefer) There are better punch recipes out there - but this easy one works for me on a regular basis. If you don't have time to do the multi-layer ice chunk as above, just keep some juice ice-cubes frozen in the freezer, you can drink this punch on a regular basis by just pouring juice and soda into your pitcher (which the kids can share) then pouring some likker in your glass, adding juice-ice + juice and stir. Not quite a Paloma but easy and tasty.

I've done the juice in the mold thing before...and added pomegranate seeds as well. That's to make it look like a wreath for a Christmas punch.
It works. Can make juice ice-cubes too. |
