Derrick Thomas’ Son Derrion Would Like Tryout With Chiefs

Former Missouri Tiger linebacker Derrion Thomas is looking to follow in his father Derrick Thomas’ footsteps as he considers a try out with the Kansas City Chiefs. Derrion last suited up on the football field for the Missouri Tigers in 2012, and currently the owner of 58 Fitness LLC in Kansas City, Mo. The 6’2”, 240 lb Thomas primarily chose swimming as his main focus during his adolescence, Derrion did not begin to pursue the sport his father dominated until late in his high school career.

Though he believes his passion lies within ownership of his business, he states in an interview with KMBC’s Karen Kornacki, he wants to see if he can latch on in the NFL.

As a former teammate of Derrion’s in the pool, I can attest to his freakish athletic ability. Ability that is similar, on paper, to his father who until this past season was the Kansas City Chiefs all-time single-season sack leader, via cbs sports. Thomas would be a project for sure, but with the talent that lay in his bloodline I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on his pursuit to the NFL.

Teams don't sign "scrubs" to their 90 man roster, they're legitimately trying to find talent and possible replacement players due to injury.

It would be irresponsible for the Chiefs and John Dorsey to give a roster spot to a guy that hasn't played football since 2012 that had one tackle a Mizzou.

Nearly half of those 90 will not make this or any other team. Who really cares who they are?

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. UDFA's and guys on their second team make rosters every year. The Seattle Seahawks are a prime example, as they have more than ten UDFA's, let alone, guys that have bounced around the league.

Wasting a roster spot on a guy that couldn't get on the field in college and hasn't played football since 2012 because he shares a famous last name would be foolish.

If Derrion Thomas was serious about football, he'd hire an agent, get into football shape and try to get a workout with any NFL team. If no one was interested, he could attempt to make a team in the CFL.
