My Catalytic Converter was Stolen...
My catalytic converter was stolen off of my 97 Chevy Lumina LS Sedan tonight...I will need to get it into a shop early Monday to get a new one put on.
I have never had this done to a car before. I googled the part and came up with this: http://www.partstrain.com/store/deta...9-5aa3be85142b Looks like the part is around 170 to 200 bucks...how much should I expect to pay in labor? How many labor hours is reasonable for a shop to charge? Thanks in advance for info! |

Try not to run the car more than you have to, being that it is further down the exhaust it may not be as bad on the engine, but an exhaust leak in the winter time generally scars valves.

They watched a guy get a drill out of his car and proceed to try and drill into the bottom of a tank. They stopped him before he broke through. He said they should have let Darwin finish the job. |

So OP you got in your car and you're ready to go to work when you fire it up and vroomblaaaaaaaaAAAAAAA. What goes trough your mind in that moment?
You technically don't need the cat conv. Just drive it around like it has custom exhaust. All the "kids" are doing that anyway. Sucks that happened to you! |

In Phoenix, catalytic converters usually run about $150 installed for a "universal" Also depending on state law it is illegal to sell or buy used converters

Sounds like it would be worth tack welding or JB welding some razor blades on the top and sides of cat if one were in a high risk area. Nothing worse than a rock hound lowlife meth monkey.

Sure enough there were tracks up to it and when the cops showed up these two douches bolted. It didn't really cost me anything. The tank only had a couple percent in it but seriously man, leave it alone. However I'd have paid good money to watch when they opened the valve. |
