Initially came on to weigh in on O-R cookies, but gotta say first, you obviously haven't had good snickerdoodles.
If there's one thing it can be said I make better than most, it's snickerdoodles. Though truthfully it's just quality ingredients and attention to detail [ie, proper proportions of ingredients, no overmixing, temp control, don't over cook, etc.] I make them every holiday season and people literally seek me out to see if I have some to spare. Also I take them to parties and have often gotten 'did you bring them' before even a hello.
Re: Oatmeal Raisin, oats and raisins are the perfect way to keep cookies moist, but not soggy. I'd characterize O-Rs as; not the first cookie I'd take necessarily, but one I'm rarely disappointed in. An RC Cola of cookies.
