Idea for Super Bowl halftime show

Marching band. They could hold a national marching band competition (I think it would be cool if it was high schools), and the winner gets to perform the halftime show at the Super Bowl. Instead of paying artists to perform, they could give money to the top 5 placing schools in the competition to go towards their music programs.

No. And the NFL doesn't pay the artists to perform.

edit: I would much rather see the field flooded and mock naval battles held during half time. Do away with the pro bowl and instead heavily train pro bowl players to be sailors preparing for battle. They can televise their training instead of the shitty game. War builds lasting bonds and Mahomes would certainly captain his own vessel so the Chiefs might be able to snag some big name free agents this way.

This is the first year in decades they have paid artists to appear in the Super Bowl. And that was only because of the Kapernick kneeling thing. The artists make tons of money with the downloads of their music. So its well worth their time. I heard Lady Gaga or Katy Perry, forget which one, made $200 million in song sales in the first week post Super Bowl.

Halftime musical acts is not my thing. I'm not their target audience. They have done well recently with current and popular acts. Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars etc...I'm assuming those type of acts attract the non-football fans?

Id be ok with the HS band thing. The halftime show really isnt anything more than a 15 minute piss break and pile your snack plate high anyway.

I mean seriously, can we get some infusion of Rock in here? RHCP was a side dish to Bruno Mars. Put Foo Fighters up there and bring in an old rocker to share the stage. Hell at this point I wouldn't even mind a Country act headlining it, call Garth!

I like this, too.

I just read an editorial piece about having marching bands or slap stick comedy routines like in the olden days. I liked the idea of the marching band. I was under the false impression that the artists got paid, so I thought turning it into a situation where schools could benefit would be a plus. If artists don't get paid, then it's pretty pointless other than the nostalgia aspect.

Marching bands are awesome halftime shows for college. Don't think it works here. The halftime shows aren't for football people. They are meant for the large audiences who watch super bowls socially even if they don't care about football. Have to remind ourselves that maroon 5 busted as expected. Acts like gaga on the other hand crushed it.

I also think the NFL needs young owners. A lot of times their entertainment choices seem like a dad asking their kid what's popular these days. That might be part of the problem too.

they didn't pay anyone, but Maroon 5 did require them to donate $500k to charity.
