If we trade a 4th rounder for a RB/FB, kill me. I don’t see Edwards as any sort of scheme fit here.

Signing Attaochu after they just cut him? Why?

No way they get a 4th for KPass. If he’s that good, he’ll stay. And they’ll hold onto Speaks I’m certain.

Not everything on there is bad or crazy, but those didn’t make sense.

Best DE I could find on the market for pennies on the dollar.

For what the Chiefs have to manage with Mahomes getting paid next offseason, I can't see why one would even entertain shipping Kpassagnon and Speaks. We get K-pass for one more cheap year. Hell, part of me wonders if we extend him? I see him much like LDT. Yeah it took a while for him to come around about it would cost more to replace him and he still has good upside. Speaks has two more seasons on a rookie deal. I think these are exactly the type of players we need on the roster.

I will give you credit for drafting some fatties.

I have long advocated in drafting a fatty somewhere in the top 4 rounds of EVERY draft. The starting OL represented 10% of roster, and unless you want to spend 1st round picks on a lineman, you better be drafting quality dudes every year because no team can afford to build an online in free agency.

I think sometime you get carried away with accumulating draft picks because it's frankly more fun with the exercise but it's not really in the best interest of the team. I can see trading Jones and/or Watkins.

Overall, I agree with Hoover. I don't see trading Kpass and Speaks as something the Chiefs do either. I don't even really see them as cuts.

I think the Chiefs will deal Jones, but they wouldn't necessarily have to if they deal Watkins. The Chiefs, with the rollover, can maneuver within the confines of the cap without getting too crazy. That said, they'll have to work low-key free agents and the draft well.

I could see dealing Jones and/or Watkins then trading for a player from another team, but I think that's on the high side of what is probable.

So the Chiefs gave up the 29th pick this year and a 2nd round next year that was expected to be at the back of the round for Clark, is 1st and a 2nd this year really realistic for Jones?

I'm thinking a single higher 1st round (20 ish) or a 2020 1st and a 2021 2nd like Clark is more likely?

Valid point.

I think what needs to be asked is who would be in the market for someone like Jones?

I mean hell, say you are the packers and you are drafting in the bottom third in the 1st round and you are needing a d-lineman, why they hell wouldn't you pull the trigger. Now this is just off the top of my head, I have not looked at their needs or cap situation. BUT, what about the Packers 1st round pick in 2020 plus a guy like Josh Jackson for Jones?

If Clark was worth a 1st and a 2nd the following year, Jones is easily worth a 1st and a 2nd the same year.

Oh that's right - Veach got tunnel vision and offered WAY more than Clark was worth. So you're probably right - Jones may get roughly what we gave for Clark. The difference is that Jones would actually be worth it.

So I suspect all we'll get is a 2nd. In 2021.

It's hard to tell how much of this is serious and how much is sarcasm. Clark played a position that is considered "more premium" than Jones, and Clark has been pretty healthy his whole career where as Jones had knee issues and now a groin strain. If he continues to be banged up this season it has to impact his value, plus the whole "takes plays off" thing that got him drafted in the 2nd in the first place. I think given all this a 1st and a 2nd the same year probably isn't likely, unless there is a bidding war?

I know you hated the Clark deal from day 1, I didn't hate it but just thought it was bad business. I can't remember where you stand on PFF but their podcast after the trade mentioned giving up that much for Clark can never be better than just signing a free agent like Trey Flowers or Zadarius Smith and keeping the picks. The irony being the two guys they named currently out playing Clark as well as having cheaper contracts.

If the Chiefs had signed Z Smith then drafted a guy like Greedy in the first, these mocks and drafts would be looking about 10 times better.

I'm neither pro nor anti PFF. I used to find their more 'involved' stats kinda useful in that you could parse through them to reach your own conclusions. Now those cost something ridiculous like $100/mo and the only thing a baseline sub gets you is their player grades (and even then, not broken out on a weekly basis).

So it's harder and harder to see through the fog and know exactly how PFF gets to the conclusions they get to. Frustrating because they actually have some good information if you're willing to pay WAY too much for it.

As it stands, I consider them just another datapoint. Sometimes I find them useful, other times I don't. They're neither garbage, nor are they dispositive. They're the QB Rating of sources - they say something, but not as much as some try to claim.

And yes, here they're absolutely right. The problem with Clark was never even the contract, it was ALWAYS that they gave up the draft capital they gave up and STILL paid him what they did. You cannot justify taking it coming and going there. If you're going to trade for a player and extend him, he'd better be a truly elite player (Mack) or he'd better come at a reasonable cost (Clowney).

You don't give up the farm for a merely good player and then pay him like a great one. It was a horrible decision from the jump and also right in Veach's wheelhouse. Sadly, there aren't a lot of other Veach's out there for Brett to scalp - he's just gonna do what he always does; take what he can get and trudge home.
