Receivers Pushing Off and Pick Plays

Pushing off and pick plays are both technically against the rules, but only egregious examples are called these days. Every 3rd down converted by the Pats in OT was due to a push off by the receiver who caught the ball, and at least one had a pretty blatant pick play in it as well.

I know the NFL has gone all in on offense, but it is a disservice to a huge facet of the game to allow such blatant cheating, and then to flag defenders for minor contact and calling it Holding or PI.

Pick plays are allowed within one yard of the LOS. In other words, this

was a blatantly illegal play that the Chiefs got away with.

As for PI/holding, the Chiefs were getting away with that all game. It was a poorly officiated game in both directions.

edit: In case that Gif doesn't load for you, here's a link to a post from another site, with some of the calls. It includes the pick

Get real.

It doesn't matter how tightly or loosely the NFL decides to call it.

There will always be borderline calls.

And there will always be the issue of whether it is being called fairly for both teams.

I'm mostly ok with the pick plays and pushing off by the offense. I would also allow hand fighting by the D. And if the D hits the receiver a moment prior to the ball getting there in a bang-bang hit, I would also allow that. And if the DB is in a good defensive position, I would be less willing to call pass interference.

But none of that is going to change the fact that it is a subjective decision of when things cross the line.

I would like to see a 5-yard, no automatic first down pass interference option. If it is blatant interference on a catchable ball, spot foul automatic first down. But if it is borderline on the interference and/or the catability, 5-yard repeat the down.

So on a 3rd and ten play where there is perhaps pass interference 30 yards down the field, the ref can give a 5-yard penalty and repeat the down. Instead of having it an either/or on a 30 yard penalty extend the drive or no call and punt.

The Patriots are a team known for cheating, and they did it again yesterday. There was a blatant pick play on one of their touchdowns that directly resulted in the touchdown. No call.

Either enforce the rule or get rid of it. Teams the follow the rules like the Chiefs do get punished for it, and teams that routinely cheat like the Patriots do benefit from it.

Ignorant people talk about the Patriots like they're a good team. They're not. They just cheat constantly and get away with it because five years ago they were a good team.

I'd really rather not complain about officiating. What drives me mad is when the refs overzealously call PI and Def holding. For the past month or two the refs have held their whistle. I'd much rather that then the shit fest early in the season when the refs kept inserting themselves into games with flags.

The truth of the matter is that it was a generally well called game. It's unfortunate that the one really bad call resulted in the Patriots winning the game. They got what they always get - a tainted "victory".

But the truth is that our more talented team blew it big time in the first half. It should have been a 54-31 victory, but the first half was an abomination by the Chiefs. They weren't prepared at all.

The Chiefs also run a lot of pick plays and get away with it. They also have O-line running downfield quite frequently. It's been a point of contention this season and teams/people have been complaining that the Refs allow the Chiefs to get away with a lot of "Illegal Man Downfield".

As i've been saying all post season, the refs have been letting these players play for the most part.

Last night was no different. There were multiple occasions that both the Chiefs and Pats got away with hold and DPI had this been the regular season.

It's pretty ****ing clear that they were told to dial it back in the posteason, as they do every post season.

They dialed it so much back that they weren't calling anything, including that PI in the Saints game.

The call wasn't SOO egregious though. And you have to account for at least one or two of this per game, even in a well officiated game.

Fact of the matter is, we were a few Dee Ford inches away from a SB.
