Am I the only one who feels kind of encouraged?

I had this game down as a loss. (See the predictions poll for proof.) The Patriots always start out slow, and I still see them as top five in the league at worst. They're notoriously tough to beat at home. They had 10 days to prepare. We were missing two OL, two pass rushers, and about 40 DBs. Pat played like shit for a half.

And the game just came down to who had the ball last.

We weren't going 16-0. If this is the one we lose, that's one hell of a season. Looking forward to next week.

****ing come on. You seem like a smart guy but this negativity is dumb. You're coming off like you'd prefer a brand new and shiny Nissan than a used Ferrari.
They are paying chump change for the QB. Not too much to ask for a halfway decent defense. Front office hasn’t done a good job with it.

He needs to start over after this year. Fire Sutton and bring in a young aggressive D coordinator that can begin a Real rebuild from the bottom up. Let the new guy bring in an entirely new staff.

Make the hard choices like- Cutting Berry- take the HUGE cap loss which will suck, but he hasn't played in forever and can't even get himself on the practice field. This contract will haunt us for several more years. There is no reason he should keep taking up a roster spot.

Move Fuller back to the slot where he was a stud.

Force Houston to restructure or cut him. His production does not come close to matching his paycheck.

Cut Ragland, Scandrick, Parker, Zombo, Sorensen.

All of these points have been gone over many, many times on here, so it is not new info.

Let's see how much of this list Veech actually gets done by kickoff of next year.
I agree with most of what you said. It's too early to shit on Veach but he needs to start making the correct chess moves to complement a championship-caliber offense.

We are not cutting Berry, though. He literally costs more against the cap to cut than keep. Let's just pray he finally plays sometime soon.

Smith was gone regardless of what we got for him. He gets credit for the decent trade compensation.

That was a list of things discussed in several different threads.

I love Berry, but have lost faith he will be the player he once was. It has been a long time since his game-winning interception in Atlanta.

When your highest paid player hasn't played in 2 years it is time to move on.

That cap hit is going to hurt.

Vikings - spent years and $$$ building a D, had a terrible QB situation, now they paid a billion for one, good for them - again, a couple years ahead of KC in the process

That's it. The Rams are not good on defense. I would not trade our entire roster for either of those above, because their advantages on D do not nearly outweigh us having Mahomes. The Vikes have a lot of pieces on offense too with their WR, but Mahomes and his age and contract >>>>>> Cousins.

In theory, we could be be an infinitely better team next year, the same on offense but with multiple upgrades on defense.

This train has barely even started and will only gain speed.
If I'm the GM next year, I'm drafting nothing but pass rushers and ILBs, and maybe a safety.

Interestingly, that's kind of what Veach did this year, but they're not really getting onto the field other than Speaks. But the good news is that they understood exactly what their needs were. It's just that their scouting wasn't good (though I'm still holding out hope that the rookies will develop).

It does suck guys like Hali, DJ, Berry, and Houston became worthless right when we get an offensive juggernaut.

I don't expect to field a good defense. I do, however, think there are moves that could be made on the trade market right now that just might help us avoid this current path of being one of the worst defenses in history.

One thing I am annoyed with—the run defense was remarkably better in the last quarter when they were actually giving max effort. It showed in every way.

Like just ****ing do that from the start.

I can't find myself being too encouraged until I see more from this complete shit of a rookie class. Speaks has been the most productive but is still a JAG. Nnadi I guess is okay for where he was taken. Where the **** is Dorian O'Daniel? Wasn't he supposed to be a perfect solution for playing linebacker in nickle and dime situations? He goes from 2 snaps in a game to 7 snaps last week and then zero yesterday. I'm guessing the guy probably isn't that intelligent if he still can't pick up the defense.

Sutton is ****ed no matter what he runs at this point. Sell out to stop the run? Your back end isn't going to cover anyone. Sell out to stop the pass? Get destroyed on the ground for 10 ypc.

That's pretty much it, really.
