Why haven't we sent a spaceship filled with people to possible habitable planets??

I don't understand why this isn't or hasn't been discussed or talked about among our multiple civilizations across the globe??

My answer is because there is no profit from it, but what is your guys' theories??

I would assume there are plenty of people who would be willing to go on this journey and die in space to allow their children's children to be possible "aliens" on a new planet???

I know personally, if the spaceship was something like the movie "passengers" with a lot of vacation vibe built in with drinking, along with restaurants like a cruise ship, I may very well be interested in signing myself up if future conditions permit...

So why do you guys think this hasn't become a thing??? Wouldn't we as a planet be interested in seeing what they find, or what they find along the journey if we can develop a transmission that can sustain the journey??

It's not an all or nothing thing. I think that's the flaw in common thinking.

We concentrate on building a big space city that's five days' travel from earth. Our children build one that's five days further than that. The next generation goes another five days. As technology develops, the five days can cover larger distances. Over a few thousand generations, we have a gigantic superhighway of space cities that we can then anchor on a second habitable planet.

There's some galactic orbital mechanics to work out since you may end up in one those crack-the-whip ice skating scenarios, but those are mere details.

We also don't have the technology to even identify habitable planets with enough precision. Spectral data can tell us there is x probability that a planet has a certain type of atmosphere, but that's not enough information to launch an expedition off of.

An inherent challenge in this sort of scenario is that as you travel further from earth you get more of a delay in television broadcasts, and specifically the Chiefs.

As an example, if you travel at 5 percent of the speed of light, it'll take 1/20 of a year for Chiefs games to reach you. That delay will add up each year, so the second year in this example will take 1/10 of a year.

This will produce a decreasing frequency of Chiefs games, which astrophysicists know as a "Chiefs red shift". Over the course of 21 years, you'll only get 20 years of Chiefs games at 5 percent of light speed. This will make it very difficult to recruit intelligent males for the mission.

Semen is easily stored in small environments and is very easy to use. Embryos would be similar, but require more effort and ability. They're also stored at a temperature that's nearly as cold as space, so you might not even need any actual fuel to keep them in storage if you could figure out the logistics.

I was going to agree with this idea but then I remembered "Threshold" and changed my mind. Once we achieved light speed, we'd continue to want to go even faster. If Janeway and Paris taught us nothing else it's that once you reach transwarp speeds you turn into lizards.

Sure, but that never seems to get brought up in the discussions of what it would take to make such a trip possible. The whole reproduction aspect of it gets totally glossed over.

We are not traveling the stars anytime soon. We need the establishment of a new kind of safe "fuel" before we can even think about it.

AND...... its a very big gamble. There is nada chance that we wont encounter some species that see us a threat, see our resources as an add to their stuff.

Warp 1 is light speed. Cochrane didn't turn into a salamander...

Problem is: if you go faster than light speed, you'd get there before you get there. Then after a while you would see yourself land and there would be two of you.
