Cannita Tips

I am looking to go to Canada in the fall. I'm probably going to be bringing $30,000 USD or so with me so I'm a little worried about that. Going to play poker in the Toronto area and maybe Playground near Montreal. Driving across through Detroit/Windsor and then coming back to the USA in Niagra Falls/Buffalo area.

What tips do you have? I'm not planning to declare I have $30,000 in the car but tell them Im just sight seeing for a couple days or something.

How easy is it to exchange like 10k USD for CAD? What does that cost?

If you get pulled over on the way up there, be prepared to have your money taken by the police using Civil Asset Forfeiture laws. It's some of the most unconstitutional shit ever. Basically, they will say you were intending to buy drugs with it or that it was gained illegally somehow and seize it and then you will have to prove that you earned the money legally. It completely circumvents the idea of innocent until proven guilty. I am unsure if Canada has similar laws, but it wouldn't surprise me if they do. I would recommend having a plan in place for what you'll do with that money. Maybe bring your bank receipts and your poker tourney invite or something.

If you haven't seen how many random people have been completely ****ed over by this when they are on their way to buy a car or whatever, you should google it.

You do you dude. I would perhaps talk to my bank and see if there is a way you can setup a bank to bank transfer or something and withdraw it in Canada or see if a simple cashier's check will suffice. Carrying that much cash is a recipe for you making a new post in the fall QQ'ing over your stolen money.

I can stand about 10 rounds of roulette before a casino makes my want to consider seppuku. That's some serious dedication.

Good Luck!
