What will the Chiefs receive if they decide to trade Alex Smith this offseason?

Opinions range all over the place on this issue, and rather than clutter up threads with my staunch disagreement with some folks, I figured a poll on this issue would be the best way to figure out the overall pulse.

If you think he'd net us something that's not listed on here (like 2 2nd round picks or something like that) then do your best to estimate what that approximate value would be.

Poll forthcoming

If we continue to see this PED-enhanced (without the shrunken testicles) version of Smith for the remainder of the season, he will be hyped and I don't see why we wouldn't be able to get a first in a trade.

When we traded a couple 2nd's for him, he was coming off a season (2012) where he threw for 13 TD's, 5 INT's and 1737 yards in 10 games. Dude already has 15 TD's, 0 INT's and 1979 yards in 7 games this year...showing signs of being one of these QB's who progresses after the age of 33...which as a thread a couple weeks ago brought to light, is not by any means unheard of.

God it'd be nice if we got a high pick for him. We are going to need every high pick we can get to ensure that we are making things as favorable as possible for Mahomes and his development as a young QB.

Yea nothing says trust like making your qb throw a total of 22 times your first 2 weeks as starter.

He'll be getting a 3 year extension. He isn't going anywhere. But if we did trade him he's worthy of at very least a first round pick.

I really don't think the 17 mill will be that big of a detriment...maybe others can chime in...hes worth 15 minimum right?

I just feel safe with Mahommes on the bench. If Smith were gone we'd be one hit away from Tyler Bray. It's not like we're the Broncos with two franchise QBs on the bench.

No one is trading for Alex at his age. At least, not very much. If the Chiefs don't want him back, other teams know KC will just release him . . . . . they're not taking that $20 mil. cap hit just to keep him as a backup plan.

Brady makes 14.4 Mil for base salary the next two years. Smith is definently worth 15 mil minimum. 17 actually seems like a steal considering what QBs are getting paid now days

You don't think there would be any team interested ?

If there are two teams interested, wouldn't one of them be smart to swing the deal by throwing out a bone?

With the contract and age, the chiefs would be lucky to get a 4th.
If the decision to go with Mahomes happens, any team taking him would be freeing up 17M of cap space for the chiefs.
In this this crazy NFL world that's filled with FO folks with the onset, or in the midst of their CTE disease, the chiefs may be able to find someone to overpay.

Cleveland is the shot I called last year. They have cap room, cash, picks and a big need for a QB that can help them win.
