Early 2021 Mock (3 rounds)

*Chiefs get a 2021 and 2021 3rd round comp pick for Bieniemy.

1. Dylan Moses, LB, Alabama- After using a 2nd in Gay last year, the Chiefs take Moses in the 1st to pair with him and turn a position that’s been a weakness for far too long into a strength.

2. Jaelan Phillips, EDGE, Miami- The Chiefs need to add another pass rusher with KPass and Okafor set to be going elsewhere in 2021. Phillips is a former #1 overall recruit that battled injuries at UCLA before transferring to Miami.

3. Tylan Wallace, WR, Oklahoma St.- Wallace is a replacement for Watkins that should compliment Hill and Hardman well with his YAC ability. Like Watkins, Wallace might not be as fast as Hill/Hardman, but he is still plenty fast enough and can make big plays especially after the catch.

3. Bubba Bolden, S, Miami- another transfer to Miami, Bolden is a top HS recruit from USC and like Phillips is having a great year for the Hurricanes. I love Dirty Dan, but he’s a liability at times and the Chiefs could use another young athletic safety that gives Spags another chess piece to work with.

I know some are going to say “where’s the IOL?”, but the truth is this isn’t a very good class and unless you are willing to take one in the 1st, chances are you will be reaching for one in rounds 2-3. The Chiefs have 2 4th’s, 2 5th’s, and a 6th to work with. If they have to take 2 to hedge their bets a little, so be it.

Our o-line situation isn't as bad as it looked.

Fisher continues to lock down the LT spot. Nick Allegretti is 24, and just getting some playing time. I think he nails down that LG spot. We get LDT back for next season, and have Niang in the pipeline (depth for a year).

The real question marks are Schwartz, one year left on his deal, but at this point I don't think we are extending him. And the Center position, where Reiter is a free agent, which is frankly our biggest need. The issue is that it's not always a center in the draft that's worthy of a 2nd round pick. If there is, I think we have to consider it.

Under Andy, the Chiefs have always gotten by cheap on the line. No reason that won't consider. Just wish he could run block better.
I think the bookend tackles were big early in Mahomes career. Frankly though, now, he's getting to the point where his pocket presence is good enough you can scheme around that. Like Manning in his hayday.

WR is kind of crazy in terms of talent at the position right now. All the 1st round picks from this year are looking great, A lot of the sophomore guys also look really good (Metcalf, Deebo etc) and then this years free agent group includes Godwin, Golladay, Allen Robinson, Smith-Schuster, Corey Davis, Will Fuller, TY Hilton, Curtis Samuel, Sammy Watkins, AJ Green, Perriman, Marvin Jones, Agholor.

Based on this, and how great the last couple of years of drafts have been, I really think some great WR talent drops in the draft to the back of the 1st round (or at worst, some vet is available for cheap on a short deal)

Having Moses would really free Spags up to do a lot of creative things. I mean, Moses and Gay would give you two LB'ers that never 'need' to come off the field; that are faster than any RB or TE and big enough to be thumpers.

Moses' play early this year wasn't fantastic. Sounds like he is playing better as he continues to recover from the knee injury and trust the reconstruction.

I think G/C needs to be high on everyone’s list of early draft picks. Remember they wanted Peat in free agency this year so they know.

Exactly why I think he’ll turn out to be a great value late in the 1st.

We’ve been shopping in the clearance aisle for JAG’s like Reiter and Wylie for too long. I wouldn’t be the least bit upset if Veach says “**** it” and drafts a first td IOL.

If that helps fix our horrible short yard situations I’m all for it.

Ideally I’d like to draft 4 fatties in this next draft. A pass rusher and IOL both early and another late one with the measurables and size.

Hell it doesn't even need to be a first. Just quit waiting until the 6/7/UDFA range. Round 3-4 should be the sweet spot to find some decent talent on the IOL.

Rounds 2-4 are going to be good this year for linemen. It's a pretty deep class.

Not sure what it’s going to bring of value but we also get LDT and Niang back next year.

Yeah, much deeper on IOL than last year, at least as it looks right now.

If they spend 2 of the first 4 picks on interior types, I think they'll be in business.

I ran one today that I liked...

Traded back from 32 with the Cowboys. Got their 2nd, 4th, and 6th

Got Nick Bolton with the Cowboys' pick (38?)
Alijah Vera-Tucker (USC LG/LT) at 62
Tyler Linderbaum (Iowa C) at 90
Marquez Stevenson with the Cowboys' 4th
Dayo Odeyingbo (Vanderbilt DE, super high upside) with 5th
Roger McCreary (Auburn CB) in the 6th

Only thing I couldn't find to a way to make work was grabbing a TE I liked/saw as an upgrade.
