Kipers Mock 1.0

Spoiler!

31. Kansas City Chiefs
Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College

Kansas City redid its wide receiver corps last offseason, but it might have to do another overhaul in 2023. JuJu Smith-Schuster, who had a resurgent season, and Mecole Hardman are both free agents. Could they supplement what they have with this pick? I'm a huge fan of Flowers, who caught 200 passes in his college career. He's polished and shifty, shaking cornerbacks from all over the field to get open. I almost went with speedster Jalin Hyatt (Tennessee), who is a better deep threat, but Flowers is more ready to contribute early. Hyatt had 15 touchdowns and averaged 18.9 yards per catch for the Volunteers in 2022.

^Kiper also notably has DL Byran Breese available at our pick. Breese is my stretch target this year for a trade up, he'd be awesome next to Chris Jones! I also really love WR Jalin Hyatt, VERY interesting!

Look up Jonathan Mingo's draft profile, 6'4 215 lbs w/ 4.4 speed deep threat, projected in the 3rd or later after 800+ yard 16.8 ypc season. I think he ends up rising quickly, I wouldn't hate using our 2nd on him.

Can we take a beat here to consider how incredible Byran Breese falling to us from the top 10 would be!? Pairing him with Jones seems like the obvious pick here to me.

No, the reason he dropped was because he supposedly couldnt run routes, he was thought to be a one trick pony who could only run GO routes.

Im guessing thats all he was asked to do in college because as we can see, he can run routes.

Damn, I sure wish we drafted him!

Im all in on Zay Flowers. Might be the most impressive WR in the draft i've seen thus far.

I think Zay is going well before 31, but that would be a lot of fun.

I think it's possible Zay is there for us but increasingly unlikely. If he's there I doubt there's a better sure-fire pick at OT or DE, so I'd be more than tempted.

I'm curious to see how fast Zay Flowers and Josh Downs are. If they are 4.40 guys then that's not what I want from a 5'9" WR when we already have one of those. If they are 4.30 then we're talking a different story. Neither looks as fast to me as Tyler Scott does but we'll see.

Downs is gonna be too small to play outside of the slot imo, but he'll be excellent there. Flowers gives me Lockett vibes, maybe even a touch of AB. Great releases, super crisp, can run any route. He looks slower than Scott but a lot more polished and capable on the outside.
