DraftTek 7 round mock.

DraftTek doesn't have the final picks or anything. They don't have the fact that we're likely to earn two sixths and a seventh from compensatory picks, and it's not clear they know the Fenton 7th rounder is unlikely to activate. And we still don't know which 6th rounder the Chiefs gave up for Toney, their original 6th or the Dolphins' 6th acquired for Tyreek.

But it's still a fun exercise.

Here's what they have:

1.30. DE Andre Carter II, Army
Costing over $65M, which ranks 1st overall in positional cap dollar expenditure, the defensive line continues to be the team's biggest money pit. This has been a theme for the past three years. The reason is clear, the Chiefs fell into a damned-if-you-do; damned-if-you-don't scenario.

Damned-if-you-do (The good draft outcome): Drafted in RD2 of the 2016 NFL draft, Chris Jones turned out to be more effective than the team imagined. Even when the team was dead last in the league at stopping the run and preventing TDs, Jones was still dominant at his position. He now has 65 career sacks (15.5 this year), 12 forced fumbles, and 33 passes defended from the interior. When the quality of D-linemen around him did not hold up, Jones stepped up and earned a nice, fat (4 yr/$80M) paycheck.

Damned-if-you-don't (The draft lacking outcome): An NFL reality... When you finish at the top of the pack, you draft last. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, EDGE rushers tend to go early. Where the draft was not able to provide, free agency did. The Chiefs outbid other teams to land Frank Clark for 5 yrs at $104M. Clark has 12.5 sacks less his last 4 years as a Chief (19.5 sacks) than he did his first 4 years as a Seahawk (36).

The Omnibus Appropriations Bill, posted to the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, will determine the fate of EDGE Andre Carter II. The Reese's Senior Bowl selection has accumulated 20 sacks, 2 INTs, 5 forced fumbles and 2 blocked kicks during his collegiate career. If the bill stalls, he could drop... providing the Chiefs a more affordable and quality option at EDGE.
2.62. S Tykee Smith, Georgia

3.94. DT Kobie Turner, Wake Forest

4.122. OT Warren McClendon, Georgia

4.132. RB Tank Bigsby, Auburn

5.165. DT Keondre Coburn, Texas

6.196. TE Luke Schoonmaker, Michigan

7.226. CB Sevyn Banks, LSU

7.249. WR Justin Shorter, Florida

7.251. OLB Dee Winters, TCU

7.252. WR Michael Wilson, Stanford

7.257. OT Luke Haggard, Indiana

I think, even as the league transitions to increasing reliance on sabremetrics, defensive coordinators are still just calling plays based on what they perceive the offense to be. And I just don't think the league gives two shits that Pacheco is notching 5 yards/carry. It's Mahomes! Nobody gives a shit about a 7th rounder out of Rutgers, who is only gaining 5 yards a carry because of Mahomes -- so says their perception.

Well if you get a better known guy from a bigger program who goes on the 2nd day of the draft who, thanks to added athleticism, is putting up 5.5 yards a carry over, say, a three week timespan, then DCs I think are going to suddenly wake up and say "maybe this guy is worth staying honest against." I just don't think they think that way right now.

That said, it's not a horrendous problem to have, as the Chiefs offense is incredible right now and Pacheco is doing his fair share. With Bigsby, you're just exploring ways you can notch the offense up yet another rung.

I'd think a better way to notch up the offense, would be by improving the WR room or the T situation.

Like others I kinda hate the Smith pick, but I honestly don't hate the picks across the DL. Kobie Turner and Coburn at those picks to me are excellent, you've got run stuffing and pass rushing. I guess for the 2nd and 4th round picks I'd go some combination of OT and WR. I wouldn't hate the second 4th going on a safety.
