On the draft position for QBs

This scale was in the Landry Jones > Geno Smith thread. It doesn't apply at all to QBs.

The Grading Scale

Grade Draft Profile Description
10 No. 1 Overall Pick Elite, once-in-a-decade player
9.5-9.9 Top 5 Pick Exceptional, difference-maker early
9.0-9.4 Top 10 Pick Excellent, rookie starter
8.5-8.9 Top 25 Pick Special, rookie starter
8.0-8.4 Top 32 Pick First-rate, rookie starter/contributor
7.5-7.9 Top 50 Pick Very good, rookie starter/contributor
7.0-7.4 Top 64 Pick Very good, rookie starter/contributor
6.5-6.9 Top 75 Pick Good
6.0-6.4 Top 100 Pick Average
5.5-5.9 Top 125 Pick Average with issues
5.0-5.4 Top 175 Pick Average with issues
4.5-4.9 Top 250 Pick Borderline NFL talent
4.0-4.4 Undrafted FA Below average
3.5-3.9 Street Free Agent Marginal
3.0-3.4 Camp Body Marginal
2.5-2.9 AFL/UFL/CFL Inferior
2.4 < Reject Unworthy

There are only 3 categories for QBs.

1. This player can start immediately, and he has good franchise potential. Players in this category can be ranked relative to each other.

2. This player can be a) a backup or b) with development, a starter with good franchise potential. Players in this category can be ranked relative to each other.

3. This player isn't not NFL quality.

If you are the Chiefs or any other team that is in desperate need of the QB, you take a category 1 QB with your first available pick. The "value" or ranking doesn't matter. So if a team that needs a QB has the overall #1 pick, and a QB with an 8.0 rating is the best in the class, you take him. If he pans out, the pick is a bargain. If he doesn't you are going to pick another one in 3 to 4 years. That's just the way it is.

Knowmo will be by shortly to tell you all about his brilliant theories on passing on QBs when you have the top pick in the draft

You want a QB grading scale?

Since 2004, with the change/enforcement of the pass interference rules, you better take a ****ing QB until you get a franchise level player at the position.

Every two/three years.

You don't take safeties in the top five. You don't take five tech defensive ends in the top five.

You take quarterbacks until you get it right. Then you take your left tackle and pass rusher until you get those two positions right. You can then, perhaps, use one on a receiver or a cornerback. But, after getting a franchise QB, a top quality left tackle and a dominating pass rusher, you shouldn't be drafting in the top five/ten until said QB retires. But then you shouldn't be drafting in the top five/ten because you've already groomed a guy to replace the guy, a la Green Bay with Favre and Rogers.

It's amazing how some teams get it and some teams just continue to flounder away in sub-mediocrity for their entire existence.

This used to be a good team and a great franchise.

****ing fire Pioli NOW!
