Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Yeah, its 50/50 at best, but I have long maintained that place, and situation often dictates success, or failure of a player.

Tyler Bray has everything in place to succeed. If he doesn't, he wont have the Geno Smith excuse of place and situation. its ideal for him.

Learning from not one, but two vet qbs who have seen how success is made, Andy Reid, Doug Pedersen who helped groom Donovan McNabb, Brad Childress, and Chris Ault.

His situation is above ideal.

Good post. The 2013 QB Class sucked. We were smart not to draft one.

Yup. But these are the kinds of moves teams have to make at the Qb position to at least give us a shot at winning the Qb lottery. Bray cost us pretty much nothing, and hopefully he realizes he has been given a golden opportunity, and to retrain his work ethic etc. If not, he is gone and we move on.

Absolutely. IN COLLEGE. Reports out of TC are that he has been anything but that. he has been a hard worker, had a good attitude stayed attached to Alex Smith. That's why Stanzi was shipped out in the first wave of cuts. They are going to let Bray play the entire second half and get him some experience, then hand him a clip board for the season, let him lead the scout team, and learn all year with no pressure.

Its a marvelous situation.

All Bray had to do was step up big so far and look better than Chase Daniel. Well, because of Daniel's contract, it would be very tough, or so you would think. Instead, Bray will be dicking around with the practice squad and scout teams. Now if his attitude and work ethic stay strong through the year? Then maybe KC dumps Chase for Bray as #2.. or at least makes the #2 spot a tight competition.

No. Not at all. I think what happens is if Tyler Bray develops, after Alex Smiths contact is up, he takes over, and Chase continues to be a quality back up......

Sure. It's a no-risk situation, but the chance of a payoff/reward are much more slim than many people here seem to think.

Somehow I got sucked into the "Bray-thing" going on here at CP. I really don't give a shit about him, I just think he does have 'some' upside, where a lot of posters here think he is a PoS waste of oxygen.

I wanted Geno at 1.1 when it looked like he was a sure top 10 pick. I would have wanted him at 2.2 when his stock started to slide IF they had still owned that pick.

Smith has some of the same issues as Bray (mechanics, needs to learn to be productive in an NFL offense, needs to respond to coaching). He does not have some of the harder-to-fix issues (Bray: Lazy, party animal, selfish dick).

Definitely, but you have to at least have purchased one lottery ticket in order to have a chance at winning the lottery. This year that lottery ticket is Bray, next year it will be some other random Buttsex Magee out of some Hidden Valley State U.

I agree, but as more things come out, I think there are more mentality problems there than we knew of

Its crazy that fans have no way of differentiating the last 30 years from last years draft.

Nothing the Chiefs have or haven't done and for that matter will do in the future, has a damn thing to do with how shitty a QB class 2012 was.

The fact some of you cant separate that fact is what makes you crazy.

Clark did not tell Dorsey and Reid they weren't allowed to draft a QB at 1.1, I know some of you tin foil hat wearing space cadets believe that.

Its not even a monetary risk now with the new rookie slotting system.

Had there been a franchise QB in this draft I feel confident Reid would have said thats my guy, just like he did with McNabb.

You can want a franchise QB to be there all day long, that doesn't make it true.

I think it was Parcell's who said "Need is a horrible talent evaluator" and that is extremely relevant to his last draft.

Have the Chiefs ****ed up royally on QB's over the last 30 years? Yes thats obvious. That still doesn't change the options available in the 2012 draft.

I think Bray may have been the best bargain of the entire QB class.

people wont accept the fact that the top level talent in this draft was pass rusher and o linemen.

So, most of the people in the drafts top 12 were really stupid because they drafted 7 olinemen in top 12. Never been done before. Never been done where 3 of the top 4 picks were offensive linemen.
