So is it possible that Spags just plans on blitzing more than ever now that we have the most athletic back 7 we’ve had in his tenure? It’s going to be a lot of responsibility to put on the newcomers plate but clearly the playmakers are behind the DL and perhaps the plan is to get sacks from everywhere because it doesn’t seem prioritized to come from the edge.

Yeah. That’s even uglier.

I have hopes that Saunders could still have a breakout year, though. We all knew he was a project when we took him and he basically lost a year to injury so this is his third year on the field. That’s the time most reasonable fans thought he would step up, if he ever was. Veach sure gave Nnadi and Saunders votes of confidence by not bringing in a player to compete with them this offseason with the exception of the guy from Chicago.

Spags has always said he blitzes depending on matchup not so much Chiefs personnel so I don't think so.

You can't rely on blitzes every week because some teams/QBs are great at scoring against them.

Karlaftis doesn't count yet as he hasn't started playing. But yes, you hope he signals an organizational shift in mindset.

Jones came pre-Veach.

And like I said, change Clark from a miss to a hit and the analysis changes. I think ultimately this entire discussion comes in large part from the lingering after-effects of a MASSIVE swing and miss on Clark. The investment there was massive (one of the larger single investments made in a player in Chiefs history) and he's simply been a non-factor.

When you miss that big, the impact is long-lasting. And it will take some time to dig out of. They expected him to be an impact player - he hasn't been. Now they are going to address that misfire.

They're just being awfully deliberate about it...

I think they like Stallworth quite a bit. And to be fair, he DID show some real juice down the stretch last year. He was, essentially, what they hoped Saunders would develop into, IMO.

Saunders just doesn't seem to have figured out how to put his athleticism to use. And if he can't do that, he's just another fat guy with rough edges. It just seems like he's constantly letting guys latch onto him. And I wouldn't have expected that from him.

I have a perspective on this that even though the Clark thing is a MASSIVE swing and a miss it was a major learning lesson for young GM wet behind the ears Blizzard of Vanity. He has made mistakes but each year his draft have improved and the last two back to back drafts is legendary now if he keeps it up he will be the GOAT. So I think that swing and a miss hurts it made him a better GM so he isn't going make massive swing and a miss mistakes like that again. Although in this business he is in giant mistakes are bound to happen it's how you make up for those mistakes that count.

I agree.

The Orlando Brown Jr. trade demonstrated the lessons he learned (you can't be willing to give up so much in the deal that you're over a barrel on the contract negotiation). As did the refusal to trade 1st rounders for a WR to replace Hill (and the decision to trade Hill, for that matter).

He absolutely learned from the Clark debacle. I just think he's still the last horse into the barn on Clark's actual ability at this point.

I know this is a bit off topic, but Howie Roseman is a young GM that has made some huge mistakes, but he has also seemed to learn from them.

He’s had a VERY good offseason.

I’m impressed.

Oh I think they know that they will be looking for a QB next year, but they have 2 1st round picks in what looks to be a MUCH better QB class.

They’ve set themselves up nicely if they can get it right.

That's a mighty big if.

The Eagles haven't had a long term answer since Andy chose McNabb.
