If they had any reason to be arrogant, we definitely didn't see it. They basically let their Strange beat Thanos by cheating then killed him after the fact while he wasn't fighting back.

They had knowledge of the Multiverse and yet didn't care to listen to the warning when a Strange from another universe comes running from Wanda? They know how dangerous Strange is. Even if they assumed this version was weaker than others, it wouldn't be wise to ignore what he's saying. "We'll deal with your little witch"

The members of the Illuminati are generally pretty arrogant so it tracks with the comics, but something about these variants on-screen really rubbed me the wrong way

Oh yeah I can see the arrogance as if they were supreme beings and nothing especially from another Universe would even dare them and they had ultimate power. They were wrong That was like us taking out the Raiders 48-9.

Watched a 2nd time since I fell asleep the first time.

Movie was ok. I though it could've been better.

Seemed like they just threw a bunch of shit together because wtf not it's multiverse shenanigans. Makes it hard to follow....maybe its just me.

Liked the first movie much better IMO.

I rolled my eyes that Richards and bolt who are more powerful than marvel and cap get wasted in seconds. But cap and the marvel last a whole lot longer.

I'm not sure Black Bolt is more powerful than Captain Marvel in the MCU. Reed definitely isn't if he's based even loosely on the comic book version.

Those two getting wasted first made sense given the circumstances, though. Black Bolt was making a move to speak so she put a stop to that, then Reed immediately attacked her so she did the same.

Peggy Carter should have been a complete non-factor, for sure.

One of the bigger "holy shit" moments of the entire movie was the realization that they really are building up to a Secret Wars mega event. The moment Reed started calling it "universal incursions".....that's right out of the 2015 Secret Wars script. And now that we've established that there are universes in the MCU that have Fantastic Four's, it's just a matter of time until we get Dr. Doom and build up for Secret Wars. And shoutout to Dane is he's lurking on here and reading this. You called that two years ago.

That's where I'm at. I didn't DISLIKE it, but they crammed an enormous amount into it, often kind of glossing over things that felt like they needed more time. Maybe it'll grow on me over time, but it it felt a bit weak to me.

We left Wandavision with Wanda feeling super ashamed at what she had done and seeming like she was back to "good guy" Wanda. Then this movie goes straight into Wanda as the bad guy? I don't mind the turn, and I don't think it's out of character at all, but it felt like it needed more time to get us there. Obviously good Wanda is inside, so a little time fleshing out bad Wanda taking over would have gone a long way.

I was also a bit disappointed with how it (didn't) tie in more closely with No Way Home:

The implication of NWH was that Strange had opened up the multiverse through his spell gone wrong. But in this one, everyone was immediately just like "Oh yeah, those are a thing. No big deal." It didn't feel like the Spiderman plot had anything to do with it at all.

I guess in summary, I thought the plot of this one on its own was reasonably good, but the connections to the other films were much weaker than we've come to expect. It worries me a bit in terms of signs for the future, but hopefully they'll prove me wrong.

I guess the idea is that the Darkhold has been corrupting Wanda in the time between Wandavision and MoM, which, in order to fit No Way Home, would have to be at least a year.

Probably the main reason for all of this is that Multiverse of Madness was originally supposed to come out first, before both Wandavision and No Way Home. The 1-2 punch of changing directors and the pandemic forced them to shuffle things around, and they had to scrap a lot of the original version of MoM. I don't think Wanda was even supposed to be the main villain originally.

You can see some seams in No Way Home too, with the characterization of Strange and Ned randomly being able to open portals. That was supposed to be America Chavez.

Marvel is going to use Wanda as their Gene Grey Phoenix saga. They'll play this out until a generation has gone by before they, inevitably, remake the Phoenix saga...
