I need the coils cleaned on my compressor outside of the house. I also just want a general inspection, coolant, etc. How much does this type of thing usually run. I am going to have a friend of a friend look at it but you know how that goes. I don't want to think I'm getting a decent deal while getting ripped off. Thanks for any input.

I always have so much problems with my AC unit. They don't ever last as long as they say. The one at my rental house lasted 7 years, aren't they supposed to last for 20?

Then at my house I just had to replace the entire system 3 years ago and yesterday the motor got fried. They cited the cottonwood trees in the area (there aren't many) that stick to the exterior of the condenser making it harder for it to run. Thing is I pay for their Spring and Fall service in which they do that too & clean off the unit there. Are people really spraying off their condensers more than that? Would be nice if that wasn't something I had to worry about as I don't think the MAJORITY of people even do it.

Hmmm hard to figure out why you are having these problems

It takes 5 to 10 minutes and extends the life and efficiency of your cooling system.

Also, I'm pretty sure you're trolling here. What I don't understand is why in your trolls you like to paint yourself as a lazy bumbling idiot?

What should we be doing? Just spraying off the outside unit more frequently?

I wash my outside AC at least once a month during summer and I wash the unit once a week during spring cottonwood cotton. This was the worst cottonwood season Ive ever had. Nasty tree

I also had hail damage to the cooling fins. Bugs gave me a plastic comb designed to straighten the fins and now I dont have hail damage.

I took off the top of mine a few months ago (~6-8 screws) and sprayed outside-in, removed all the leaves and junk inside (wasn't much), then sprayed inside-out.

I found the biggest difference maker this year with working from home and the AC never turning off during the hottest afternoons has been keeping the ceiling fans going.... tried several things over the course of about a week and the extra air circulation was the one thing that made the AC actually turn off and stay off for a little bit at a time during the hottest part of the day.

At least until I replace the shitty windows.

How am I trolling? I don't do anything myself. At all. I signed up for a service plan to specifically avoid this issue and so they do it for me. It's 2021..I would think we could create efficient machines where you don't have to spray out the condenser unit monthly. I assure you 90% of the population doesn't do this more than twice a year along with half not even knowing they need to do it to begin with.

Yes clean the condenser unit of leaves yard clipping dust and weed seed. Depending on the environment once weekly every couple weeks if you don't have much of these things. Any bent down vents you can open back up with a butter knife but no deeper than 1/2 ".

Do this first

Stay on top of filter replacement even if it doesn't look dirty it probably is if it's been in a while. Buy the cheap filters they are less restrictive but still collect particulates. The expensive three and four-month filters do more harm than good.

A good cleaning of coils from the inside with a moderate stream of water at beginning of the cooling season is a good idea.

A portable vac or wisk broom can clean the outside condenser if can get to it. A hose can tend to push weed seed deeper.

I bought the condenser comb from Amazon it was cheap enough. I went back to a table or butter knife its faster and easier IMO.
