Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Rodgers developed off the field of play. He was too ready from start one to think different. He didn't develop as a starter, he developed by practicing hard and smart. If Bray languishes in his training regimen because he doesn't anticipate starting soon enough, that's on him.

Your argument is like saying 'It's kind of pathetic that Chiefs fans are reduced to looking to draw a straight on The River, rather than collecting two pair like normal Hold-Em Players.' Well, the draft ended, and we had 10 J Q K suited and the A has not been dealt.
My point: Bray has sizeable and difficult-to-overcome flaws and is an extreme long shot. He gets an awful lot of discussion for a guy in that spot.

Like what? Of his flaws are mechanical and a lack of coaching in college.

Easily fixable.

The "us" vs. "them" aspect of this argument is inane and smacks of self righteous ideologues - it's like talking to a Tea Party moron - look, we all want the Chiefs to succeed and have a great QB. The Chiefs brought in three new QBs this offseason (a vet, middle career and rookie) - getting rid of everyone they inherited. They didn't extend Smith, as most predicted. I guess I find the hand wringing over them not drafting a QB in this dog shit class - sorta ridiculous.. Reid drafted QBs and will continue to draft QBs, as did Dorsey in GB, have a little patience...there is only one draft a year.

Good point and true very true. BUT, they did so without actually drafting a Qb, and this is the problem. The Chiefs are continuing to show that they think they can get to the Superbowl with a Qb that was not drafted by them. And while Drew Brees was able to do this for the Saints, by far the majority of Superbowls are won by Qb's drafted and developed by their team.

The Chiefs once again administered the 'band-aid' approach to solving their Qb problems, the same approach that netted us Cassel, Green (while good did not win a playoff game), Grbac, etc.

Some fans are ok with 'band-aid,' retread Qb's but some of us aren't. It is a polarizing issue.

I'm not a huge Bray fan, but to say that he does not have potential is just being spiteful.

The Bray love is because of the Physical abilities. His arm is rare special.

His mechanics, his footwork, his coaching or lack there of seeing as the guy who recruited him bailed on him almost immediately, and the guy they replaced him with was a guy in way over his head.

All stuff that is fixable. Just like you cant teach height, you cant teach a great arm.

he needs to sit, and learn and is on the perfect team to do just that.

You know what the problem with this argument is?

IFFFFF the chiefs had spent a 5th rounder on Tyler Bray, no one would say a peep. but because they got him for free, now he sucks........

he has as much upside as ANYONE that was drafted, and yes, he has that same bust potential, but you didn't waste a pick to get him.

But you're telling me they thought drafting a 1-AA QB who couldn't beat out Tyler Palko in college was smart drafting? That Flacco really was the best player available on their big board? That they said, "Hot dog, we'd mud wrestle our own grandmothers for a franchise QB right now, and lookee here. We got the perfect guy of our dreams right here! Yeehaw!"

Bullshit. Bull ****ing shit. The team was in a QB quandry, their offense sucked balls, and they knew they couldn't keep winning with defense alone. Chris Redman failed. Kyle Boller failed. They said, "We've gotta fix this problem. I know we whiffed on those other QBs, but we gotta keep trying. Somehow, we need a real ****ing QB at the head of this team. So let's pull the trigger on Flacco, I guess. Yeah, he's pretty rough for a 1st round pick, but he probably won't be available later. Can't risk it. We need him NOW, so we'll have an experienced guy in the future."

They took a shot. They TRIED. Because they needed a QB. And it paid off.

When we're that desperate for QBs, our balls shrink in so far they shoot out our assholes. We get conservative and go into a shell when we need to stay strong and make bold moves. We trade for Alex Smiths. That's what we do.

Hope it works out.
I realize the whole geno smith thing was big for you this offseason. I get it man.

But taking a guy they don't believe to have the necessary skills to be a franchise qb just to be "bold" and just to try, isn't something these franchises that are successful have done or do.

I respectfully say this because I like you as a poster and mostly agree with things you say, but this post reeks of emotional backlash.

And I do agree about flacco in a sense in that he wasn perfect but they pulled the trigger. Reid an Dorsey have been involved and done the same thing in te past, yet they determined not to do it with Geno.

I also realize what's gone on in the past with qbs here, it sucks. But this front office has shown that they know how to draft qbs in their past. I'll sit back and see it play out before I get upset.

I also will admit that after the past decade or so an with things I've gott going on in my personal life, give me a relevant football team that can win a game in the playoffs and I'll be happy.

I know that's not a great way to feel, but it's what I've gt going on

An apparently, so did/does the guy we all wanted at 1.1.

Geno turned out to be a much bigger project than we thought/hoped.

So... you're just gonna drop the Joe Flacco thing?

Joe Flacco wasn't a lottery ticket, sure. I'll give you that. But he was absolutely "Well, we gotta TRY" kind of pick. To say so otherwise is warping the facts.

When I say "go bold" I'm not saying we should be like the Raiders. I'm saying just draft a ****ing QB.

What's wrong with that?

The Chiefs don't try with skill positions. They just draft invisible positions in a draft where any of the top 10 guys could have been considered as the #1 pick and it wouldn't have been any more of a stretch.

I'm not saying this. I'm glad they picked up Bray, and his price made it even better. I just don't think he will get the time of day to start in the NFL while AS is a Chief, and his window on the team is only a couple years at best to get his shot. Don't see it happening for him but that is speculation on my part.

Now if the Chiefs took someone in the first or second rounds, then most would agree that they have a clear determined mindset at developing the guy and giving him starts in the future. No such assurances for Bray, who will most likely be a career backup.

Oh, he's got potential. The throwing arm is above-average for the NFL and he's big.

He's also an immature, douchey troublemaker with questionable work habits who was not popular with his teammates because he was selfish and showed no leadership skills at all.

That's what turned a 6-6 guy with a monster arm into an UDFA rather than a 3rd round pick like Mike Glennon. That says a lot about what NFL teams think of his ability to overcome his problems.
