Had to put my friend down yesterday
She’d steadily been losing weight for months and took a bad turn. She wasn’t holding down fluids for 3 days even intravenously. I petted her neck while momma rubbed her ears as she left this world

She had my back and was always there for a kiss during the dark days of chemo. I’ll miss my Po dog.


I’m heartbroken.

Gah. Sorry for your loss. I had a dog die at 2am this morning.

Well, sorta. A dog that i couldn't take care of anymore and gave to a family friend, but I had him as a puppy and young adult. Named him D-Bowe. I was moving and gave him up to a family whom my Mother in law care takes for. He died in my mother in law's arms at 2am this morning. He made it 10 years, ol' D-Bowe did.

Had to put our dog down this past weekend- feel your pain.
12 good years. I imagine I will miss that ornery pup for months to come but it does get easier every day.
He had a thing for hiding stuff (food, bones, tennis balls) in my closet. Yesterday I found a half of a bagel half in a shoe. I cried and laughed at the same time. Weird.

People who have never fallen in love with a dog don't get how painful it is to lose them. I've fallen in love with many, over the years. Some still hurt my heart, many years later.

But in spite of that, I keep getting them (we have three right now). They totally enrich your life. The pain of losing them is acceptable, when you consider the steady joy they brought you over the years.

I've always given it time to settle, before I proverbially jumped back on the horse. We're an English Bulldog family. Our last one was Boris. It took my a solid two years after he died before I could even consider getting another one. Now, we have Pearl, and cycle has started all over again. I am totally smitten.

Hang in there. You did the right thing by letting her go.

Carried him out, in my arms, just as I had carried him in 13 years earlier.
