Mock (10/12)

Assumptions:

1. The Chiefs finish 13-3, win the AFC West, and secure the 1st overall seed. They host the Patriots and manage to fend them off for a trip to the AFCCG, where defeat the Denver Broncos, 32-13. In the Super Bowl, the Chiefs lose in a shootout to the Green Bay Packers, 38-33. HC Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach stay on.

2. The Chiefs trade QB Alex Smith to DaneMcCloud's mother for a 1st round pick.

3. The Chiefs trade DE/OLB Tanoh Kpassagnon to the Houston Texans for ILB Zach Cunningham.

4. OLB Tamba Hali and ILB Derrick Johnson retire.

5. The Chiefs extend CB Terrance Mitchell 3 years, $22m ($12m guaranteed).

6. The Chiefs sign NT Bennie Logan 3 years, $27m ($15m guaranteed).

7. The Chiefs tender NT Rakeem Nunez-Roches.

8. The Chiefs re-sign QB Tyler Bray, RB Akeem Hunt, FB Anthony Sherman, DE Jarvis Jenkins, ILB Kevin Pierre-Louis to minimal deals.

9. The Chiefs cut TE Ross Travis.

10. The Chiefs let walk WR Albert Wilson, WR De'Anthony Thomas, OL Zach Fulton, OL Jordan Devey, NT Roy Miller, ILB Ramik Wilson, ILB Terrance Smith, CB Phillip Gaines, CB Kenneth Acker, P Dustin Colquitt.

11. The Chiefs sign QB Chad Henne (Jaguars) for 1 year, $3m, WR Allen Robinson (Jaguars) for 4 years, $30m, TE Virgil Green (Broncos) for 1 year, $2m, DE Kyle Williams (Bills) for 2 years, $10m ($2m guaranteed).

12. The Chiefs are picking 31st, and have one compensatory pick (a 6th) for QB Nick Foles. They have three conditionals: a 6th for OT Isaiah Battle, a 7th for DE David King, and a 7th for CB Marcus Cooper.

The draft:

1 (Smith). OLB Dorance Armstrong, Kansas

Chiefs have made strides for their offense, giving new starting QB Patrick Mahomes every possible weapon at every position. They're bringing back RB Spencer Ware and signed WR Allen Robinson to truly stack the playmakers across the board.

But the defense needs to be replenished. Hali and DJ are gone in this hypothetical. Roy Miller and Jarvis Jenkins are on the street. Bailey and Ford are in their last years, as is Nunez-Roches. Kyle Williams was signed to a two year deal, but who knows.

Dorance Armstrong is emerging right now as my favorite player in the 2018 draft. He's got the size and body for it, he has been so productive consistently against competition that rarely runs the ball because of how bad the Jayhawks are. In addition, Armstrong has a lot of room to develop, which is perfect for this coaching staff.

2. NT Lowell Lotulelei, Utah

The Chiefs insure themselves against losing Nunez-Roches by bringing on a block of granite at nose tackle from an area Andy Reid cherishes.

3. CB Iman Marshall, USC

The Chiefs are solid for their three starters, but need depth since they've lost Gaines and Acker. Marshall has some slot flexibility and could flourish on the outside.

4. OG Braden Smith, Auburn

I really like Smith, a bowling ball of a guard from Auburn, and I don't like my options at center in this draft just yet. I'd like to know if Smith has some center flexibility -- if not, at least we've got Cam Erving.

5. ILB Chad Whitener
The Chiefs trade two of their 6ths for a 5th.

A big bodied thumper like Ragland.

6 (Foles). CB Deion Harris, North Dakota

Long, rangey corner that reminds me of Pierre Desir.

6. P JK Scott, Alabama
The Chiefs trade both of their 7ths for a 6th.

Chiefs trade up to replace Colquitt.

roster:

QB: Mahomes, Henne, Bray
RB: Hunt, Ware, Hunt, West
FB: Sherman

WR: Hill, Robinson, Conley, Robinson, Chesson
TE: Kelce, Harris, Green

LT: Fisher, Erving/Witzmann
LG: Ehinger, Witzmann/Erving
C: Morse, Smith/Erving
RG: Duvarney-Tardif, Witzmann/Erving
RT: Schwartz, Erving/Witzmann

DE: Jones, Nunez-Roches, Jenkins
NT: Logan, Nunez-Roches, Lotulelei
DE: Bailey, Williams

OLB: Ford, Armstrong
ILB: Ragland, Whitener
ILB: Eligwe vs. Cunningham, Pierre-Louis
OLB: Houston, Zombo

CB: Peters, Mitchell, Nelson, Marshall, White, Harris
S: Berry, Parker, Sorensen, Murray

If we're picking up Henne to be the backup....why the **** are we re-signing Bray? Either we re-sign Bray to be the backup....or we pick one up and cut ties with Bray.

LOVE the Robinson pick up!!! Surprised he's not being mentioned more.

I also saw that Watkins is expressing his frustration in LA, he apparently has the 5th most targets behind the RB and TE.
