Fox News Poll: 54% of Republicans, 70% of all voters support raising taxes on $10m+

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox...estic-spending

Overall voters:

Republicans in particular:

Quote:
Republicans are less sure where the sweet spot is for tax hikes. A majority of 59 percent opposes tax hikes on incomes over $250,000, while a 54 percent majority favors increases on incomes over $10 million. For incomes over $1 million, GOP views split: 47 favor vs. 43 oppose.
Sounds like AOC's ideas are more popular in your party than any of you care to admit!

That's a good article. Don't think it's too far off from what I said. All buybacks aren't bad. Much of them are very good. Which is the flaw of Schumer and sanders proposal. Too much of the buyback activity isn't driven by those good reasons. Its driven by greed and market manipulation. We dont need to stop buybacks necessarily, but we need to stop that self interested behavior.

Fox News tells Americans to stop complaining about their shrunken tax refunds

On Wednesday, Fox & Friends attempted to spin the situation, blaming taxpayers who should have somehow known to have adjust their withholding a year ago and should have saved more.

Noting that the average tax refund has dropped 8.4 percent since last year, guest and Fox Business Network host Charles Payne claimed Americans should have used their “fatter paychecks” more wisely.

My god Suzzerclone... did you even read this thread. How about this article from the NYT which headlines screams "Trump screwed Us", despite what it said in the article:

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/12/y...er=rss&emc=rss

Quote:
Although most people will see their tax burden decline, the Government Accountability Office expected about four million people to pay more.
Only 4 million tax payers and these are all folks with expensive houses, with high taxes and large mortgages...

Quote:
On Monday, the Treasury Department pushed back against reports of smaller refunds, saying it was still early in the filing season. “Refunds are consistent with 2017 levels and down slightly from 2018 based on a small initial sample from only a few days of data,” the department wrote on Twitter.
And tax experts said some people who would receive larger refunds — those claiming the earned-income tax credit — aren’t getting their checks yet.
Quote:
Despite the confusion, some accountants have had the pleasure of delivering good news. Conor Barnes, an accountant at Egan Tax & Books in New York, prepares returns for many renters who typically don’t have enough individual deductions to itemize their returns. Instead, those filers take the standard deduction, which has doubled.
“Now that the standard deduction is higher than what it has been,” Ms. Barnes said, “people without mortgage interest and real estate taxes are seeing a tax benefit they haven’t seen in prior years.”
She also works with a lot of freelance workers, including photographers, who didn’t realize they would receive a nice tax benefit from the new qualified business income deduction.

I hesitate to post this here because I know how much some of you are irritated by tweets about taxes that mislead or don't explain how taxes work completely. Do you think she's being dishonest or do you think she doesn't understand how taxes work?

According to the Tax Policy Center, 80 percent of filers received a tax cut, and about 5 percent wound up paying more in federal income taxes. The tax cuts showed up in fatter weekly or biweekly paychecks for most Americans, but few people noticed, according to polling.
Here is the thing though Dave, this isn't even complicated. It's been pointed out 100 times they reduced withholdings starting in Feb of last year.

I find it impossible to believe grown ass adults who have been paying taxes their entire adult lives don't understand how this works. But frankly people are kinda stupid, especially those that don't pay attention to how shit works.

From my observations you tend to see everything left of laissez Faire economics as socialist, so by your standard they probably are.

They're a regulated market economy. That's not socialism. It's still POWERED by the market.

This really isn't any of my business, but I'm gonna ask anyways. Did stevieray and chiefshrink have a bet also? Maybe they did and I don't remember it.

chiefshrink had a bet with someone else, not stevieray, but I don't remember who it was with. Anyway, shrink lost and shouldn't be posting here. But they agree on most things--both are religious nuts for one--so SR doesn't care that shrink never honored his bet.

I don't know that suzzer's bet was even with SR. Maybe it was, I really don't know. But you'll notice a lot of people give suzzer shit and not shrink. They just prefer what shrink has to say, so they don't care that he still posts here.

This is what I was wondering, I wasn't sure. So since stevieray and chiefshrink didn't have a bet, why should stevieray be held/expected to give chiefshrink shit about an alleged bet he was not a part of? It doesn't really matter what shit "people" give to who as far as stevieray is concerned (IMO, I'm not trying to speak for stevieray here).

I mean, if he chooses to, then so be it. But why should he be expected to? Just curious. Like I said, none of my business.

(and FTR, suzzers bet was with SR. I remember that one, just didn't remember the chiefshrink situation)
