Take care of yourself guys

In the last year I have had 6 friends die. 4 in their 50s, one in his late 40s and one in his early 60s. All appeared to be in great shape. Makes you think a little about your own mortality. Wish I had retired a couple years back when I had the chance. Seems so young to be kicking it. Still others have had major health issues and cannot enjoy any quality of life. What ever happened to the new 50 is the old 40?

TBH I'm afraid I will outlive my retirement. My great grandpa lived to 98. My dad just passed away at 89 but I know damn well he willed himself to death cause my mom died.

Of course I drink and smoke cigars but I'm pretty damn healthy for almost 60. Proud to say that I've never been on prescription drugs. I also never worry about things I can't control. I never watch the news and never discuss politics. My dad obsessed with that shit.

If they were in great shape it was probably just genetics.

You can't outrun family history.

I’ve got this view that I’ve had to adopt over the past few years that it isn’t about the years in ones life it’s about the life in your years. Oh and more titties. One needs more titties.

Know your numbers. Especially your LDL and glucose. If your LDL is borderline or high you can bet your circulatory system is collecting arterial plaque through out. Make sure your glucose is in check because once you get diabetes I or II it just screws with everything else in your body making diseases so much more easier to get.

Tomorrow is not promised.

James 4:13-14

13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.

Mark 8:36-38

36 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? 37 Is anything worth more than your soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

Hebrews 3:12-19

12 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. 13 You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. 14 For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. 15 Remember what it says:

“Today when you hear his voice,
don’t harden your hearts
as Israel did when they rebelled.”

16 And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness? 18 And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him? 19 So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.

I was a Respiratory Therapist for 9 years. I helped people be as comfortable as possible while they die slow deaths full of regret. Every day someone didn’t die on me, was a rare good day.

You’d think Respiratory Therapists working with these dying patients wouldn’t smoke, right? But no, a higher % smoked than the general Population. WTF? we were in the ICU/ER all the time. High stress to say the least. So people smoked.

I've done CPR, put people in body bags, and made next of kin notifications. None of it fun but it truly made me realize that it is true that Jesus holds the keys to life, death and hell. Most people wake up on the day of their death not realizing its their last day.

Sorry you lost so many friends. I know how tough it is. My older brother passed away last month at 32 years old from a pulmonary embolism. He was a little overweight. Didn’t smoke or drink. He was reffing a basketball game in warrensburg when he collapsed, he died shortly after they got him to the hospital.

He loved reffing more than anything, and his passing has made me stop and appreciate the little things I love more. And to love the people I love a little bit harder. Also to be sure to let them know how much they mean. God bless and enjoy your day.

I don’t think people realize how powerful companies like Monsanto are. Just look at what happened to DuPont with their state of the art product imprellis

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imprelis

Class action lawsuit against DuPont for not being honest about the label. There was nothing on there about damaging trees. And it cost them a shit load of money 6-7 years ago and they haven’t skipped a beat.

^^^^This is what I'm running into. My father died from a heart attack at age 67. He had 4 brothers, 3 of whom died from heart attacks. His father died from a heart attack,

Unfortunately, between my siblings and I, it looks like I inherited the bad genes.
I'll be 63 soon, exercise regularly, but have been under a cardiologist's care for the last 12 years. Most of my health issues are stress related but I keep an eye on everything else, HDL, LDL, etc.

The lesson of this exercise. Being fat isn't a big deal. Drink often - just not heavily.
Your quality of life in your mid 50s and on will suffer greatly, as you surely will develop DM2. Enjoy daily insulin shots, neuropathy and the pain associated with that, looking at your feet in a mirror every morning to ensure they arent infected from a lego you stepped on 2 days ago, and your eventual early demise. Its a really bad way to go.
