The Sharing Economy: how much you sharing?

Today I rented a car for two days on Turo. $80.40 complete total. It's the 8th time I've done it.

I've also done AirBnB, Lime Bike, Uber, Bird Scooter.

What services have you used in this new sharing economy?

Most people are 20-40 using these services and I'm nearly 56.

Yeah the cab service here blows. The rat soup, fly by night, Mickey Mouse outfit takes forever to arrive and has an irritating habit of picking up multiple people going to multiple destinations. This can drag out a 15 minute ride, into and hour or more. Uber and Lyft have been much more reliable and less expensive. I haven't used a local cab in years.

What’s up with the scooter sharing thing?

I’ve heard a lot of cities don’t want them. I guess there been a lot of accidents with pedestrians, cars, etc....

Lower scale communities seem to enjoy lime bikes, bird scooters etc, while upper scale communities detest them.

At least that's the vibe i've gotten here in San Diego. Communities such as Coronado, Del Mar and La Jolla are passing ordinances to ban them from their streets. While Central San Diego has them on damn near every corner and used regularly.

1. I've been using Airbnb/VRBO on my house in Denver since 2015 and now pays for all of my house expenses, including mortgage. I also use those services when I travel.

2. I prefer Lyft over Uber since it's typically cheaper, drivers are nicer, and they give me the occassional 50% off rides for two weeks like what I have now (used it last night to go to the plaza in KC).

3. I used Turo once and had a good experience with it. Some owners jack up different fees so it takes more examination than originally thought.

I do it all. I love Air BnB, Turo and Uber/Lyft. You save so much money - and you get better service.

Types of those things are all over MPLS. Which confirms the Detox post.
Even when one company moved into MPLS-the council ACTUALLY DEMANDED they remove them because they did not have a license to do business in the city.

People are getting injured like crazy on the scooters. ER visits went way up after they were introduced. Small wheels hit large cracks.

One of the suburbs close by allowed lime bikes. Only during the summer months. It is a trial basis. I would like to know if they stop at the city border. Because if I would find that thing in my yard, it is going straight to the scrapper.

The last time I was out there those ****ing scooters were everywhere down by the Midway. Like a herd of weird people riding their chariots into battle.

An issue that's probably national, but is true here in Denver, is that the scooters are technically classified as toys. So most people don't think about wearing helmets, and even if they do they don't own one or they don't have it handy when they rent a scooter. Then they face plant into the pavement at 15 miles per hour, because those things can really move going downhill.

I'm actually kind of intrigued by them, and society might be better off if everyone used them instead of cars. But there are some bugs to work out.

I was in San Francisco shortly after the scooter craze hit. People were riding them on the sidewalks at 10+ mph weaving in and around pedestrians.

If the only way to prevent that is to prohibite scooters, I'm 100% for prohibiting scooters.
