RAPOPORT: Steve Spagnuolo, Dennis Allen, John Pagano names to watch at DC

Just heard on NFL Total Access.... FWIW. https://twitter.com/rapsheet/status/...864004097?s=21

Allen, the Saints DC, is a free agent for those who may read that and wonder.

If I’m forced to pick between those three.....I’m going with Spags.

Quote:
Spagnuolo learned under Philadelphia coach Jim Johnson, and shares the same aggressive, blitz-heavy approach as his mentor. (He did not incorporate this philosophy during his time in New Orleans however). Spagnuolo uses a 4–3 base defense with a heavy emphasis on multiple blitz packages, including corner and safety blitzes. While defensive coordinator of the New York Giants, he often used a smaller defensive line, with three or even four defensive ends to further pressure the quarterback.

This philosophy proved successful, with the Giants leading the NFL in sacks in 2007. In Super Bowl XLII, Spagnuolo's defense sacked Tom Brady five times, which was the most he had been sacked in any game that season.

I like the idea of Spags. It will move them to a 4-3. He will use and rotate a smaller d-line, probably even play 4 DEs at once or maybe even deploy a Kpass, Jones, Speaks, Houston death lineup if he can develop Kpass and Speaks in the 4-3 then it's a win.

Love how people think switching to a 4-3 will fix everything, high percentage chance Houston can’t do it be damned

I was wondering. Weird. I guess I'd prefer Allen over Spags and Pagano.

If Houston doesn't renegotiate his deal, there is zero chance he'll be on the team.

Yeah genius idea!

So ford/Houston gone with switching to a 4-3 do you need more reason NOT to do it

I like Allen. He did a nice job in New Orleans without a bunch of all-pro talent.
