Retirement Thread

After the positive responses and congratulations on my Retirement thread, the idea came to me that there should be a thread that helps everyone prepare for the eventuality of retirement.

There were many great ideas, comments and great suggestions that came out of the conversation. What I would like to do is put this here as a repository for information for anyone who is:
  • Ready to retire
  • Close to retirement
  • Beginning to plan for retirement

One of the things I came to find out is that no matter how much I had thought I was prepared for retirement, there were still things I had not pondered or prepared for.

So this thread is for all your questions, comments, advice to help others that are close to retirement.

I mean....this board is about a year and a half away from being around for a quarter of a century, and many of us who have been around are there already.

So, please feel free to contribute!

All of the senior engineers under my charge have left the company since except two. The also called me and asked me if I had my files that they could obtain after I wiped my computer hard drive. No to that, lol.
We were in the black for 20 years and this past year, they are around 20 million dollars in the red and screwing their employees to clean their books up enough to get loans. They got rid of PTO, reduced 401k match and forced all to use at least two weeks of previously earned vacation and are cashing out the rest. Really sad to see what we built be dismantled. If it weren't for TSMC, they would be in more horrendous trouble than they are now.
Well my ex-company will survive without me, but sorry to hear about your old one. That is terrible.

The therapist said that it was normal and will happen from time to time. He said muscle fatigue is common so as long as I am not struggling for breath or having chest pains I shoul be OK.

Have any of you ever had the same experience when doing rehab?
Some days the body just fights back. I'm not personal trainer but I've had days where it just wasn't going to happen and my solution was to turn it into a moral victory and just walk the dogs or go to the pool and swim (with much of it in the hot tub). Somedays, like in sports, the stars don't align, so look for a victory..

Absolutely. Part of the process. You got this!

Never been through a rehab program, but I would bet almost everyone who has followed a training plan knows that there are just days when our bodies are off. It's absolutely normal, nothing to worry about. The benefits from rehab/training come in many cases from the body rebuilding tissues that have been broken down, so instead of rehab/training just resulting in one-way gains, it's really a back-and-forth where on net you're winning better health, but you will have some sessions that feel off.

Thursday's workout went much better....even with changing the incline on the treadmill from 5% to 7 %....

I was actually in a zone throughout most of the workout.....the only thing that stretched me was the last piece of leg work I did.....I just felt leg fatigue although I made it thru the total workout.
