De Sousa attorney calls for immediate reinstatement from NCAA

Silvio De Sousa's attorney, Scott Tompsett, released a statement calling for the Kansas basketball sophomore to be immediately reinstated by the NCAA, the Kansas City Star's Jesse Newell tweeted on Thursday.

De Sousa, who joined the KU basketball team for the second semester last year, has not played in 2018-19, pending the result of a review into his eligibility by KU and the NCAA.

KU coach Bill Self announced before the season that De Sousa would be withheld while an investigation took place to better understand everything that was revealed during a trial that took place in New York with regard to the FBI investigation into college basketball.

"I don't see a scenario where I won't coach him again unless there's something that comes out more," Self said at the time. "But let me make this very clear, and make sure you guys get this correctly: There is an eligibility review that's going to be done jointly by our university and the NCAA and that will determine when he can play, and I guess you could even put the word 'if' in there, but that's something that will be determined by somebody else."

Most recently, Self was asked about De Sousa at his weekly press conference on Thursday and said he had heard no new developments. Later in the day, De Sousa's attorney put out the statement.
