Even Jim Cramer on NBC said it was not as bad as what was being reported by the media.

He was then taken off stage, put in the basement of 30 Rock, and waterboarded.

I think a recession is coming. I don't know if it'll hit before the election or not. I've got a feeling it will. If you don't think the trade war has anything at all to do with it, you're kidding yourself. That's coming from a guy who does think we need to fix deficiencies there, it was one of the few items I agreed with Trump on, I just don't necessarily agree with his approach. I know the interest rates were raised too quickly as well so there are multiple factors at play here.

What approach should he take then? Everyone loves to say what you just said but have no idea what to do. Did you see the numbers out of China? They are hurting.

The hell of it is that if you try hard enough, you can make it happen.

You can't fake a crash, but you can fake a short-term recession and make one happen from whole cloth that would last just long enough to get you through election season.

It really is some scandalous shit. Billions wealth for anyone simply saving money (not just those 'wall street fat cats' or whatever) will be wiped out in the name of trying to put their finger on the scale.

Really frustrating to see. Yes, there are some indicators of a short-term correction but nothing awful. There's not an impending crash by any means. But my god if there's any kind of short term contraction, you'll see the media screaming at the tops of their lungs that the market is falling apart.

That's the thing about trade wars - they're never fun, but sometimes they're damn beneficial long-term. Moreover, while you hate to see them stall a strong economy, you damn sure don't want to enter one with a weak economy either.

And China has more pressure than we do to pull out of this; our economy was in better shape with far less growth pressure (theirs is immense) entering into this. You can see them ratcheting up rhetoric now because they're running out of rope and they're hoping that Trump lacks the political will to stand firm coming into an election cycle.

They're on the edge of blinking but of course you have the American media and the Democratic party being complicit in trying to push the US into caving when we shouldn't.

This was never going to be easy and there are arguments to make that it wasn't ever necessary. But it was always possible to come out on top in it, perhaps even likely, so now's not the time to just pull up stakes and go home. You see this through and the country could very easily be better off for it.

Personally I'd encourage US investment in our neighbors to the South. We can buy our cheap shit from them instead of China. That's creates jobs there and keeps more people in their own country, reducing immigration, etc. as well.

That's one small aspect of this though, there are a ton of different areas where we have issues and it is complicated. That's why I don't like Trump's approach. He treats every problem as if you just fix it with a hammer when sometimes you need a wrench or a screwdriver.

We can talk about China hurting all day but their people don't own shit, it's all govt. If they struggle for a couple years, they'll survive it. The govt will cut back, etc. and it'll suck for their people but it already sucks for their people. If our farmers suffer for a couple years, they might lose their livelihood. China just needs to wait it out. If people rise up, they'll handle them aggressively and stamp it down. They might have more to lose but their govt allows them to give their people the middle finger more than ours does.

That's been tried, though. Same in Africa.

You mean like the re-negotiated NAFTA?

yes but I'm talking specifically targeting companies with a higher investment in China and rewarding them by moving their business stateside or into North America so it's a bit beyond NAFTA. I'd tie those rewards in tax savings to the tariffs that China had on us. They eliminate the tariffs and the tax savings go away.

There's some oddity with that new NAFTA agreement and it's in spots no one seems to talk about. One is that we had Canada by the balls on oil exports under NAFTA and they essentially eliminate that in the new agreement. Very different topic and it's not really covered hardly anywhere. Here's an obscure Canadian site that talks about it.

Anyways, I'm not a trade expert by any means but it's the nature of Trump's approach to basically everything that's the issue. Hit it with a hammer and then figure out the problems you caused later. Sometimes you need the hammer, he just wants to always use it.

I am completely confident that a quick and easy search will find you saying the exact same thing during the Obama years while the conservative media assured us the economy sucks, Obama's failed policies, and freaking out anytime the marked dipped.

I am absolutely positive you are consistent in bitching about the media.

Just an FYI, companies are moving out of China. They are moving in Vietnam so fast that Vietnam will not be able to keep up.
