Keep doubting CEH

Yup, it's time to go there.

Clyde is being sold below guys on our practice squad (mOrE GOre!!). The Mayocks of CP are coming out of the woodwork to revisit the draft and the 'wasted' first round pick on a RB. He's slow. He's unathletic. He has no vision. He can't pass block. He completely sucks.

I'm not sold on this narrative.

Fumble was inexcusable but highly atypical. Guy has struggled with vision this year. But he flashed early last year. He's still figuring out this OL and the Chiefs are still figuring out how to use him in this system. He was named the MVP of the best college (spread) offense I think we might ever see. He has talent. Just needs to re-find his groove.

I'm not giving up on him as we've seen Reid do more with a lot less. And I think Clyde is primed to turn it up from here.

So, not a homer take. Just a take that's being less pessimistic after a difficult loss. Let this be a safe space for those who haven't given up on Clyde.

I believe.

He doesn’t run out of the slot because he sucks at that, too.

Taylor had almost 1200 yds last year and 11 TDs. I’d say he’s better than CEH at this point in their careers. And despite injuries, fumbles for Dobbins and Swift, both seem to have better burst than CEH, who appears to have gotten slower since last year.

If Patrick Mahomes one day loses all his nerve, changes to number 11 and checks down every play, Clyde MIGHT have a shot at someone on an opposing defense briefly considering giving 2 shits about him.

But since 15 has balls of steel and intergalactic arm talent, that shit is never gonna happen.

Darrell Williams, scrub, is the better back.

Total bullshit. Cost us the game? Offense can't be perfect every week so if Clyde was the single reason then so was Mahomes throwing a pick. The DL has played like pussies for two weeks, they ruined the game and almost ruined both games.

Williams is not a scrub.

I'm pulling for the kid, but IMO he's an example of a great college player who is nothing special in the pros. What I don't understand is his measurables were not great, yet the Chiefs drafted him in the 1st round regardless. We're seeing the player that his measurables would suggest we'd see, maybe even a bit worse. So, my doubt is certainly justified thus far.
You were the exact person I thought about when I started this thread. I have literally seen you post some version of the above 76 times over the past week or two.

This is a safe space, TEX. Go to the CEH JAG thread to spew your Clyde-ish venom.

No reason to have faith in him given what we've seen. Now, if he just suffered the lowest low of his NFL career with that fumble that's good, but he has a long way to go to get from the player who lacks vision and fumbled away a win to a great player.

But no matter what, he can't help the D...

In order to be effective in the slot, you've got to be somewhat quick.

He isn't good at making defenders miss in the hole or in the open field, why would we believe he'd be good at shaking a guy off in coverage?

I'm all for trying something new because what he's got going on just isn't working, but he really just does not appear to have the tools necessary to be a great NFL RB.

Great blocking by Kelce. But CEH runs straight Into the Ravens tackle at the end.

I’m reserving judgment until he’s healthy. Maybe he never will be, but the week 1 Clyde last season (his number one strength is his shiftiness/cutting ability) looked way different than week 1 Clyde this year. The high ankle sprain last season, followed by gall bladder surgery in the offseason, then spraining an ankle again this preseason…makes me wonder what he would look like close to 100%.

I gotta disagree here.

I think he is who he is. Average RB to slightly above average. I just don't see anything that is going to make CEH a great RB in NFL.

He doesn't have great speed and he doesn't have great strength (can't break tackles w consistency). His vision is good but nothing special. He is decent at making defenders miss in open field but after that lacks big play explosion. I haven't seen anything to suggest he is much of a threat as a receiving RB either.

Hopefully I'm wrong but I don't think he will ever be anything special. I think Reid will give our backups more carries if his lack of production continues.

I'm hoping he tears it up next game though and proves me wrong but I doubt it.

He looked much better last year. He followed the crease and made something out of nothing. The kids in a funk. I believe he can turn it around. It could be the coaching change a little bit. The second play looks a little like what Mitch just talked about except Clyde follows his blocks towards the outside and makes guys miss.

A competent RB jump cuts that to the right and goes for 10. CEH doesn’t have the vision to do it.
