I’m holding out hope for the ‘Willow’ series next year.

I have always enjoyed a well made western...but for some reason no one can seem to make them anymore mostly because no one wants to make a movie unless they can make the character morally flawed.
I would love to see someone try to update/remake Silverado. |

superhero movies are going the way of the 80s action hero genre
they had a shelf life and you don't see them anymore

Iron Man Jr. is my least favorite Spider Man. Like, he's a solo act in the books by and large. He made all his own gear, repeatedly gets shellacked and has to figure things out on his own,, and in the MCU it's Tony Stark swooping in on this fledgling hero and just completely outfitting him with everything from the start. He's treated like a B team hero when this is supposed to be Marvel's flagship character.
My hope is that in No Way Home they kill him off and open the door for Maguire or Garfield to return to the role in Sonys films. They'll never do it though. I'm so tired of Holland's version that I'd welcome a Miles movie, and I've never been a Miles Morales Spider Man fan. Holland has already stated he wants to be done with Spider Man. So kill his ass off and its win win.

Perhaps? But this current superhero trend has been going on for 20+ years now. I count Blade 1 or the first X-men movie as the start of it. But things truly took off in 2008 when Marvel started making their own movies. Hollywood always gives the people what they want what they know will make money. There has always been a dominant genre no matter the decade.

The formula has been overmilked to the point of being passè. The 80s action movie analogy is on point.
There are a handful of titles that have remained entertaining over time, e.g. Ironman (original), Guardians 1 (2 had moments but that end...ugh), Doctor Strange (controversial, I know but IMO was solid original entry), Thor: Ragnarok, and Infinity War (excellent culmination of multiple storylines). IMO the best of the Marvel titles were Deadpool and Spiderman Multiverse (my fav). All the ancillary titles were okay to poor. The latest stuff is just not interesting.

Plus, Spider-Man is generally depicted as a young, jokester. Even in the comics, other heroes recognize his potential, but he's usually treated like the young kid of the group. In the MCU, he had only been Spidey for a few months. That's a stark (heh) contrast to Iron Man's decade +, Cap's decades, and Thor's millennia. Even lower tier characters like Fury, Black Widow and Hawkeye have decades worth of experience. Last edited by ThaVirus; 12-08-2021 at 03:33 PM.. |

The MCU, I feel, has done a banger job of portraying Peter Parker as he is. This is an offshoot of that discussion, but they've made the Mary Jane character far more interesting, too, but I sometimes feel like they pull their punches with her. In Far From Home, Parker tells her she looks nice and she responds, brilliantly, "--therefore I have value?" Which is a freaking golden response if they had stuck with it sarcastically, but instead she lowers the drawbridge with a "I'm just messing with you." They keep wanting to add edge to her but they keep backing off, which is a shame. Zendaya has done great in the role and would kill with a little more edge to her. Maybe they really are afraid the Captain Marvel EdgeLords will come back out and haunt her if they do. |

Peter should have stopped talking to her after that edgy response. It was a compliment. No need to be a witch about it. |

This Hawkeye show is...fine.
Pretty generic family friendly filler. When he starts shooting arrows into guys hands instead of doing what he'd have undoubtedly done in real life (just kill the shit out of them) you kinda had to know what you were working with. When the scary russian heavies are making jokes about the concert they don't get to go to we're clearly not looking at a Logan style superhero movie. It'll be watched and vanish from the public consciousness almost as quickly as it came. Nobody is doing a bad job and Renner is doing his standard solid work. Steinfield vacillates between lamb in the woods and stone cold badass a little too often for my liking, but whatever - that's how these kinds of shows work. Empty calorie Saturday Morning Cartoon sort of Marvel fare. Whatever - it's no better or worse than Ant Man and The Wasp or whatever that sequel was, strikes the same tone as well.
