Bought tickets to the games on 12th and 26th as part of the pick 3 before the season. Not sure if I can find the give a shit to drive 2+ hrs especially with the gas prices. Shame really, I was pretty jacked about this season.

Let’s go back to January 2016, right on the heels of the WS win. Skunkhead had a young talented roster he could lock up for several years, or he could choose to let them ride out to FA and supplement them with FA to keep their window open 2-3 years.. he chose the latter and burned out the franchise to what we see today. A mushroom-cloud sized fart bomb.
Jan 6: signs Gordo Nation to 4/$72 deal. Delivers a putrid 3.0 fWAR or $23.8 in value. Jan 29: signs RedBeard Kennedy to 5/$70 deal. Delivers a putrid 3.9 fWAR or 30.9 in value. He therefore burnt $142 of payroll (that small market teams can’t afford to burn) on two bad players who earned him only 7 total wins. And he did so at the expense of not extending good players (Cain Hoz Moose Duffy Dyson Herrera et Al) that were much, MUCH better future bets. FG write up of the Gordo deal did mention there were 23 comps for Gordo over the past 30 years. They avg 12.5 wins over their age 32-35 seasons. So it *seemed* like a safe bet he’d be like his comps. But Skunkhead is paid to predict the future. |

Once DM committed to the “window”, he had to sign RedBeard or Leake et al. Becasue he wasn’t signing any of our young core to extensions. |

Is Jeff Lunhow available? I would love for a guy like that to come in and completely reshape this organization.

Reading that thread I forgot he did 2/$11 on the giraffe Chris Young. He had about a 6.60 fip over that time for -1.5 war. In 2016 we finished 81-81 and gave 27 starts to Yiung and Dillon Gee (13, 14 respectively). We also lost Moose early on that collision with Gordo.
So having Moose and not having the hole at the 5 rotation prob cost us 6 wins. Still that only gets us to 87 wins whereas Balt and Toronto got the WC with 89. |
