Edit: I don't buy into all the conspiracy stuff below, but I do firmly believe that officials are influenced, to a degree, by narrative.

Houston wins the World Series after Harvey flooding.

Rams make the Super Bowl after major wild fires and turned around a bad franchise 3 years after moving to a major tv market.
