Andy Reid still thinks he can win a Super Bowl with Alex Smith. So Andy Reid does not want Tony Romo for Alex Smith to be looking over his shoulder to worry about his starting job.
Andy Reid is going have it all mapped out so that he can give Alex Smith the needs to win a Super Bowl with the problem with that is he can't fix or make Alex Smith any better to win it with.
Andy Reid ego to stick with Alex Smith is in the same realm as Scott Pioli with Matt Cassel.

I dunno, Andy wasn't exactly strident in defending Alex. He said he still believes he can win with him, which I'm sure he does, but he didn't say anything that would indicate he would never give Alex competition if he thought it might help improve the team.
Going after a vet like Romo seems unlikely, but I wouldn't put it past Andy to draft a QB in the first couple rounds.
Not holding my breath, of course, since I've paid attention to the Chiefs for the last couple decades. But to say that Reid is to Smith what Pioli is to Cassel doesn't quite ring true.
