Moss is the definition of an all or nothing hitter. He hits everything in the air so his BABIP will always suck and his contact rates are absymal so his BA will always suck on top of it. Now, there are periods of time where he can be a very dangerous hitter but not in the 'guy gets hot and kills everything' sort of way.

When Moss is 'hot', he just doesn't miss mistake pitches. You still have to actually throw him a mistake, but at least when he's dialed in, he actually hits it. It still means that even a hot Brandon Moss gets carved up by quality pitching (which is usually enough to put him back in a funk). Holliday and Beltran, OTOH, can hit ANYBODY'S pitch when they're hot. Holliday will probably have a hole above his hands for the rest of his career because he's just gotten a little bit old and his swing has never been particularly short, but a lot of guys have a hole above their hands and pitchers are afraid to challenge them there because if they miss by three inches, the ball gets yanked 400 feet. Beltran has preternaturally quick wrists; the kind you see in a handful of players each decade. I'd sell my soul to have Carlos Beltran's swing (from the left side; his swing from the right is a bit disjointed) and because of that swing, he can still hit quality pitching.

I absolutely hated Brandon Moss. BM, as I affectionately referred to our very own little trade-deadline bowel movement, could be counted on to do absolutely nothing for a 2 month period of time pretty much every season. He couldn't field any position credibly and if you needed someone to take a quality AB in a late game situation...well you should probably look elsewhere because it wouldn't be Brandon Moss.

He's a garbage time player; the living embodiment of the empty-offense slugger. He'd be worth a 1 yr, $7 million deal because I'm pretty sure ball boys get $3 million if they hit the market these days, but beyond that, I'm not convinced he's even worth a roster spot. I'm positive there are dozens of 'organizational' minor league veterans that teams see as AAA filler who would outperform Brandon Moss. He's ****ing awful.
Royals fans have scarred memories of him almost singlehandedly roasting us in the 2014 WC game.
