My son's in goal and there are a few things they can to to stay warm. They can load up on layers under their leg pads, the chesty if pretty thick, so the chest stays warm(er), they can wear wool under the chesty to keep the back warm, they can wear gloves under the catcher and blocker, wear a single layer beanie under the helmet, and put toe warmers in their skates. And all of them can actually wear sweaters instead of jerseys.
I think the players who skate out have it worse, they're making their own wind.
