Quite possibly, some of Trump's character traits that led to electoral success struck a little close to home to some traits that therapists have been working to eradicate in De Niro himself.

Whatever it is, I am confident it's more a matter of clashing egos than a matter of clash of heartfelt philosophies.

If nothing else, De Niro doesn't strike me as a philosopher, to say the least.
Nah, it's just Trump is categorically one of the biggest pieces of shit to ever hold the president office, but you have no morals or standards so you can't see beyond your two little feet.
