Her character is despicable because she lacks any type of redeeming virtue. She's ready to divorce Walt because he lies about where he's been and what he's done, but she has no problem committing systemic accounting fraud for a poorly run business. Skyler has no problem saying that she wants to protect her children, but is unwilling to actually protect them by informing the police about Walt's activities.
Some awful people are interesting, brilliant psychopaths, and others are just boring hypocrites. Anna Gunn's problem is that she can't see the forest for the trees. She assumes that the hatred of her character is rooted solely in misogyny rather than a combination of factors; she's also made the mistake, apparently, of living her gimmick.

My problem with Skyler, is that she is written in such a way as to be in the command position every time something happens between herself and Walt. For example, the champagne Walt bought. He bought expensive stuff, and surely someone as smart as Walt would know not to do that, but his character does so anyways to give Skyler that reason to chew his ass off about it. It just doesn't make sense. Walt is a tactical genius and is brilliant, yet when it comes to his wife she always gets the better of him. I think it is due to poor writing, with the writers purposely slanting the board in her favor to giver her clout on the show. This is how I see it.
Alsooo, when she defiantly told Walt to his face that she slept with that one dude and was not sorry about it at all... yeah, she is not going to win over any male viewers with that shit.
