I just do it. If they need something I can't do (implant placement or surgical wisdom teeth extraction etc) I send them to the specialist and they do it usually for nothing. General dentist are where they get their patients so they treat us pretty good if we return the favor.
I don't charge them or their immediate families anything for work. If it includes a lab fee ( a crown or retainer or something) I just let them pay the lab fee.
