My biggest takeaway was that Carl never recognized the primacy of a franchise quarterback/ thought addressing other team needs were more important and a journeyman could fill in.

It has been born out that a franchise quarterback is central to success. We have the luxury of viewing the league through a modern lense where it is obvious that is central today. Add in the rule changes favoring offense and it is even more apparent.

Scouting in Carl's era was probably not as thorough. But damn, having been GM for so long you would have thought he would have recognized that fact. I'd love to see a breakdown of the quarterbacks he passed on during his tenure. Also, I'd love to dive into the situations around their success. There are a guys who could've come into the wrong coaching situation and never thrived, but there are undoubtedly guys who could have made us great.
